Description
Finally finishing off my occasional series on the ancient Egyptian Afterlife (for the time being at least).
Once the prerils of the underworld have been negotiated safely, Apophis defeated and the heart weighed, the soul arrives at Aaru, the perfect land of ease. It is described having numerous reed covered islands amidst the river, ideal for farming and hunting, (or doing nothing at all for that matter) where all that was lost in life is returned. One would be reuinited with loved ones who had passed on before, with cherished pets, and one's home and garden complete in every detail. Here the deserving soul could enjoy an eternity of the life one had left behind in the company of loved ones, surrounded by treasured possessions, and all in the presence of the gods themselves.
