Description

The inscription on the building says "United Community Services" Monterey Square Savannah, Georgia Just last week We had a fun week in Savannah! Of course I took hundreds of pictures, and I'm going through them looking for things I particularly like. This shot is to show you a "typical" building in Savannah's extensive historic district. Savannah is known for having protected (in 1966) about 2-1/2 square miles of the original city, which gives it a unique flavor. It is the oldest city in Georgia, having been founded in 1733. The city remained intact during the Civil War. When General Sherman arrived in Savannah, the city surrendered immediately. Sherman famously wrote President Abraham Lincoln a letter presenting him the City of Savannah as a Christmas gift. I'll be showing you a LOT more pictures of Savannah! Topaz filter "Radiance"

My first thoughts when I saw this were "This is beautiful. It looks just like the old South." Then I read your description and darned if I didn't nail it. So either I'm that good (doubtful) or Savannah is that unique which means it goes on my bucket list. But seriously, this is a beautiful image.

Tara, I have a lot to catch up on in your gallery, and I'll do it over a few sessions. But let me start with your Savannah shots, and I'll move up and back after that...you used this filter glitteringly, producing a symphony of lights as well as an actual photograph of a beautiful structure. You caught the highlights already embedded in your photo, and made them shimmer as if they were part-liquid. It's an eye-popping photo.

The UCServices bldg looks Georgian (in Georgia!), with those typically classical proportions so beautifully balanced across the facade. With the beautiful inset white-trimmed windows, which give such beautiful grace to the facade. The classical columns in the entry way, the beautiful red brickwork, etc. It's what I'd expect to see in a city like Savannah. And you let it come through loud and clear, even though it's obscured by those beautiful lush trees. And lots of sky above---which I assume you've whited out to give more luminescence to the shot. Fascinating history you gave; and I imagine this city is esp lush in the springtime. A very lush shot of a classical, beautiful structure. Great way to start out your presentation of this place.
