My name is Tara, and I was born and raised in Washington State.
In 2010 I married Bill (bmac62) and retired ... two of the best choices I ever made! :)
In March, 2013, we sold our home in Washington and went on the road in our RV full time. What a blast! There is so much world out there to see!
After traveling around the West for a few years, we got rid of the motorhome and are now spending winters in deep-south Texas and summers in Washington State. Spring and fall finds us visiting whichever place strikes our fancy at the time!
If I’m missing from Renderosity from time to time, I’m busy having fun elsewhere.

Superb capture Tara. God bless.

Its a beautiful setting and the grandiose monument is softened somewhat by the simple chairs. Interesting that they list their memberships, religion and political parties but no accomplishments. Poor Isabella's only accomplishment was to have been the wife of John S. McMillin. I could make a crack about 'typical Republicans' but that would be mean.

In someways a poetic expression of shared insanity and mortality, excellent subject and photo.

Fascinating that he could be a Methodist and a Mason. For many folk, these two memberships are mutually exclusive!

fascinating comments, and ultra fascinating sight. I've never seen anything like it in my life. And yes, with Mark, no lists of life achievements. And fascinating what Andrea said too, I didn't know that. (My grandfather was a Mason, I really don't know much about it though.) As for the picture, you got great rustic detail in the decayed rock, and decayed hues. Great scratches and dents. And your pov lets us look up to this looming thing, with only a little of the columns visible. They're kind of like redwoods (metaphorically). A really deep dark shot with fascinating revelations. I love this.

I'll be lucky if someone staples a post-it note on a couple of planks on my final resting spot. This is such an amazing monument.

I don't know that I'd want to sit on any of those chairs, it would be a little too weird. But dang, what an incredible thing to do, those aren't going anywhere for a very long time. And yeah, poor Isabella but I'll bet she worked harder than the rest of those guys!!

You found the perfect angle for this. Like the play of light and shadows. What a place. What a monument. John McMillin certainly had his own way of doing things. I'll bet this was really remote in 1936 when John passed. Today it is still that way but civilization is creeping closer in the form of private roads and new houses. Wish Isabella Louella Heitt McMillin could see what women have accomplished in this day and age...and know that her accomplishments were every bit as noteworthy as those of the males in the family.

A great photo, Tara, and a most fascinating place. I read the article on the website you linked in the other photo, and found it quite interesting. It's just too bad there are those worthless wastes of DNA that have zero respect for anything. How depraved does one have to be to vandalize the final resting place of someone?

That is indeed an amazing place. You really captured it beautifully. One could almost feel the atmosphere on a meeting.

I feel a bit of reverence for this place. I can never understand why someone would vandalize this place or any other cemetery
