I was listening to The Beach Boys this weekend. I thought, 'This could be fun.'

superb work on this and rings a bell with me. in 1971 I had a new VW bus and I seen other VW's down along a river sandy bank. I decided to go down. as soon as I got down I was stuck. luckily a jeep owner pulled me out. I had 3-4 friends in the bus. all that weight could have been the cause

I am finding out this is more common than I thought for those of us who take unmodified cars onto the beach. My experience was a year later, in 1972 with a '71 Honda 600 Coupe on South Padre Island. We did pretty well for a while but eventually were buried to the oil pan (FWD.) The 13 in. wheels were probably the culprit. Luckily the GVW was low enough for the two of us to pick up the rear end and spin it around.

Odd as it may seem, until the mid '80s it was legal to drink alcohol and drive. You could not be drunk. In Illinois, you could not even sip a soda and drive; or have a 5 pack of beer in the back seat. Made for fun, albeit dangerous times in Texas.
