They thought they were prepared for the worst, but the worst was very far from what they could have imagine.
They left the town 4 days earlier, heading for the Guild of Adventurers. Traveling to a fast pace, barely sleeping at night, more running than walking. Maintaining this rhythm was hard for all of them, especially for Delphine, less physical than her companions. Only Minalva was relatively not bothered by that pace, being trained to track, sometimes for days, animals or enemies in the harsh environment of the forest. But even then, the psychological pression was not the same.
The day was well advanced when, like the first time, a thick mist raised from nowhere. Our four companions, weapons unsheathed, reacted instantly, forming a circle, prepared for the incommong attack.
The time was suspended for a moment that seemed an eternity. When suddenly the few rays of sun passing through the mist disappeared, hidden by something.
Minalva, who was facing that direction, fell to the ground, helpless. Marina, who turned to Minalva, and started to yell at her "WHAT ARE YOU Doi...", never finished her sentence, instead she froze at the sight of what she saw. Delphine and Romatzo reacted the same way, paralysed by the horror of the vision in front of them.
A gigantic dark winged silhouette was facing them. First immobile, it turned it's horned head to their direction. Then without a sound, it kneel down, tending its right arm to reach them.
The adventurers wanted to flee, but they were incapable to moving backward. They all sensed, that this time the end was here.
Marina in a movement that seemed useless to Delphine, crouched near to Minalva, still incapable of moving, her shield turned in the direction of the demon to protect her friend.
Delphine in complete despair, watched the giant hand coming closer and closer to them. The only people capable of dealing with a High Demon was living at the Guild. But the guild was still at three days from there. They were completely alone.
It's then that Romatzo, tightening his grip on his axe, screamed of the top of his lungs, "YOU WON'T HAVE THE DWARF WITHOUT TASTING OF HIS AXE, YOU DAMN DEMON!".
Maybe it was Romatzo's scream, or maybe it was just her survival instinct, but at that moment a declic bursted into Delphine's mind. "ITS NOT HERE! Its not here. At least not completly. So maybe I can..." Not finishing her thoughts, she jumped on a rock in front of her friends. She rised her staff, which started to emit a white light, first weak, then more and more strong.
A primal roar bursted out of Delphine chest, a mixed of pain and rage, while she was exploiting her powers far beyond their limits. The light was now blinding. Her body was screaming in pain too, from the extreme effort she was accomplishing. Her yell started to blended, then to be hidden by the scream of hate of the High Demon, a scream from another world that will be burned into their ears until their death, while the magical light was expanding at the point it was recovering everything.
And them only the silence...

Thank you for looking and also if you have read the story. Happy Link
I hope you enjoyed both.
The title is a little silly compared of the helpless situation Minalva, Delphine, Marina and Romatzo were in, but it makes me laugh. But do you think I should change it ?
I had the idea for this picture for several months, but because I don't have a prewritten story, it took me a while to build-up the story leading to this scene. Sometime the stories lead to a new pictures, and sometime pictures lead to another stories. :D
The action in the scene may seem slow, but in fact, it all happen very quickly. But for the characters, every thing seems happening in slow motion.
I think I'll try to explain the "Its not here. At least not completly." thing in the next picture. It's probably too vague for the reader.
