Description

Friday, January 4, 2019 (already!?) What is this? Modern art? Or a volcanic eruption? Considering what has been keeping me very busy these days since Kitty left my home for good, it may well be a volcanic eruption of a filthy rug. The discolored blue is the original carpet. The yellow-beige underneath it is the 1 cm. thick rug pad. Under that is 1/2 millimeter cardboard sheeting. Under that there were black plastic bags. All to protect the floor. And, on top of it all there was newspaper that was changed every day. And, believe it or not, Kitty found ways of getting through to the rug, pad and card board to leave a puddle. NEVER underestimate a smart cat! I've spent 5 hours over every 5 days breaking up the rug and cutting up the pad. Due to all the salt in her dried urine it was somewhat easy to break the rug into squares. But a serrated kitchen knife for bread was also a very efficient tool for cutting padding. Scissors and a usual knife didn't prove as effective as expected. So, now you've had a lesson in sanitizing the floor of a cat's room! Hard and exhausting work. I'm so tired I'm off to bed once I get the energy to do so! Which hopefully isn't tomorrow. Enjoy your lesson! (Quiz next week, maybe?)

I use to clean and repair apartments where I lived before. I can't remember how many carpets and linoleum coverings I've had to rip out. I understand your tiredness. but once you get this done and back to order, or a semblance thereof, you can sit back and go, 'yeah! I did it!'
good luck and Happy(?) New Year!

One reason I'll never have a cat...

I feel your pain, bro! This brings back memories of 2017 after my basement flood. Ripping out all that sopping wet carpet was a real treat.... I ended up going to Lowes and getting a couple carpet knives. I never thought about a bread knife - but the only bread knife I have is in my set of Wolfgang Puck knives, and I sure wouldn't use that one for carpet! LOL

I don't envy the task you have, but like Mike said, once done you can sit back and enjoy the results of your labor. It is exhausting work - so get plenty of rest, my friend! Keep us informed of your progress - I'm looking forward to seeing the final result.

Our moggie (a rescue cat) decided to piddle on the door mat. Wouldn't go near the kitty litter tray. So I had a look on the web, found Jason Galaxy's cat help pages. He said put the litter tray where the cat had piddled. It's been there since and moggie has used it exclusively as his toilet. I kept him in for a week or two to get used to living with us; then let him into the back garden; since then he's rarely needed his indoor litter tray. Loes going out to play and has several 'chums' round here to visit.
