Description

OK – Here’s the perfect example of why I’ve stuck around here for almost 10 years….. You. Guys (and gals). ROCK! Seriously. I posted that image yesterday describing the issue I was running into with DAZ, and you folks were all over it! Thanks so much, my friends! YOU ROCK! Erik (ikke.evc) suggested using a work-around that works for him and works for me as well. After selecting the item you want to apply the shader to, right click the shader in the content library tab, then click ‘merge with scene’ and it works perfectly. That might not be the way it’s supposed to work (bug?), but I can work with it! To clear up some confusion, I have DAZ installed on 2 different machines (3 if you count the older laptop), my main machine (the one I’m on right now), and my new machine. DS 4.10 is installed on this machine (with a GTX1070 GPU), which is the one I was having the shader issue with. The newer machine has DS 4.10, but it also has an RTX2080ti GPU. 4.10 will not utilize the advanced features of the RTX card, and only uses the CPU for rendering. Which is S...L...O...W... This is a known issue according to DAZ’s support team. Apparently the 4.11 Beta will use the RTX card. I’ve installed 4.11 in the new machine and will be doing some experimenting with it. Anyway….. Here’s a test render with G4 after applying the Uber Shader to her skin, as well as her swimsuit. She's "wearing" an older version of her T.N.A. skin. I used one of the car paint shaders that comes with DS for her swimsuit. I couldn’t resist dropping her into an old photo I took about a gazillion years ago. I added a bit of ‘grain’ to her to somewhat match the grain of the photo – which was shot on 35mm film. Remember film? LOL It’s somewhat ironic, isn’t it.. We tweak and fiddle, fuss and cuss, messing with the render settings, lighting, and whatever else to get a nice, photoreal surface… Then take it into Photoshop and add grain.. Now that I can add shaders to stuff….. There might end up being a bit of competition between Mike (Faemike55) and me to see which one of us can get the weirdest result by adding shaders to miscellaneous things… Thanks so much for all your comments, support and help - and mostly your friendship! MY! That was FAST work on a lot of DAZ experts part! But, somehow I get this feeling of seeing her as a (plastic) cartoon figure in this image. Sometimes I wonder if all the added layers of software that keep being added to figures reduces a figure render to a Poser 4 level. Not so fun if your system can't handle the extra stuff being added. And can be a pain in the neck for viewers who don't have the latest viewing software. My computer is slow (still WinXP) and the ComHem e-mail is SO slow, and insists on reloads every time I move the mouse. So I check if RodS has a post, (good), I close down ComHem and go for RodS gallery in Renderosity. But even that can be painfully slow!

Now to see what you come up with next. I wonder why you migrated to DAZ when Poser seemed to be going well for you. Keep up the good work! :-)

Actually, I haven't migrated to DAZ, I've just added it to my toolbox. Poser is still my main go-to, especially for the TNA story.

G4's skin wasn't actually designed for the Iray render engine, so yeah her skin doesn't look as good as it does when I render her in Poser. It's flat and doesn't have the sheen or the subsurface scattering. In Poser I use the EZ-skin script by Snarlygribbly (I use it on all my Poser figures), which really makes skin look great. 😁

glad you found a work around. I know nothing about any version of studio. I really like the new characters available but my wallet can not handle the cost. do good to use Poser

She is cute, no doubt, but i am so glad I dont work with 3D anymore (Poser). It took the toll of me and I was fighting it for many hours, every time I tried. It was a relief, when I stopped. Though I had fun playing with texture... :-)HelankV4Mutant.jpg
