The Grumman G-21 "Goose" was first envisioned as an eight seat commuter aircraft.The two-engine flying boat morphed into a sort of flying "yacht" for east coast millionaire businessmen, and the first production models were outfitted to carry 3 passengers, had an on-board bar, and a toilet. In 1938 the US Army Air Corps showed an interest in the aircraft purchased a variant, the OA-9 designation. The US Navy also operated the majority of the aircraft as a light transport, reconnaissance, and air-sea rescue craft as the JRF version, and the US Coast Guard also employed the aircraft. The Royal Canadian Air Force and Royal Air Force also operated the Goose in the recon, training, and rescue roles.
