Description
Two Soviet Mikoyan-Gurevich Mig-3 Interceptor fighters flying a low-level mission on the Eastern Front.
The Mig-3 was an improvement over the very poor performing Mig-1 model, and in the early stages of the war was one of the fastest fighters on the scene, able to fly at a speed of about 400 mph. On paper, the Mig-3 was comparable to the Bf-109, but the Luftwaffe fighter still bested the Soviet aircraft. Some opine that the German pilots' far greater experience, better training, and superior tactics increased their kill ratio over the Mig. In many instances the Mig performed admirably, but again, opinion is that superior pilots showed the best results. Obviously, the machine is only half of the equation. Despite many hopefully applied upgrades, ultimately the Mig-3 was replaced by the far better performing Lavotchkin series of fighters.
Mikoyan-Gurevich Mig-3: Excellent model with some re-texturing and adjustments, generously available for free at sharecg by Pedro Caparros. Thank you once again, Pedro!
Pilot: M4 figure with flight gear by adh3d.
Models set up in PoserPro and DazStudio, re-texturing in PS Cs3; composed, texture adjustment, lighting, and rendered in DazStudio; finished in Ps CS3.

Reminds me of playing IL2, never any good at the combat but used to enjoy the scenery.

Well made. The Russians made some good looking aircraft. They are not well known like western aircraft. Well made by Pedro too.

Looks great! Very convincing.

Training and tactics are (nearly) everything. Look at the success of the AVG in P-40s.

Really one of the finer examples of under-rated and lesser known WWII aircraft. When I discovered this sleeper many years ago it became one of my favorites right off the bat. Love your treatment of this wonderful Russian fighter!!!!!!!
