Description
For many years there has been a lot of talk about Global Warming and
Greenhouse Effect. So I imagined our planet as undergoing something like a
distillation. Distillation is a dissolution process followed by coagulation.
It is an alchemical process, both chemical and moral and spiritual. But
working on this initial idea, further reflections have inevitably been
added.
Firstly, it is good idea to remember that behind the doctrine of
Global Warming there is not only science but also scaremongering and
political mystification. Our planet is naturally subject to warmer or colder
periods. Some cycles cover thousands or tens of thousands of years, others
even millions. The world is constantly changing, Nature is adapting... and
man does not! Humanity has basked in false security, wanting to consider
almost immutable, almost immovable, the world in which it lives. There is
geological evidence but beyond academic knowledge, pragmatic (and greedy)
humanity wants to ignore it. Man wants to dominate the elements, regardless
of how much he is at the mercy of them.
And here comes a moral discord. Greed, arrogance, egocentricity and
anthropocentrism dominate the scene. Even religion is continuously deviated
and interpreted on the basis of the lowest desires and will of men. Every
day the deviated will and the laws of men arrogate rights on the world and
on life, regardless of the choice of Nature or God (however you think). No
surprise if we are always dissatisfied and unhappy, and ultimately damned.
The ecosystem of planet Earth is being progressively dissolved by
the arrogant and senseless exploitation of men. Do you really think that to
plant a few dozen or a hundred trees after destroying entire forests, can
remedy the damage and also absolve one's own consciousness?
In fact, today we are all witnesses - and in some way participants,
accomplices - also of a social, moral, and spiritual dissolution. We have
questioned, and often rejected, millenary moral and cultural values. Social
and economic relativism destroy the family, the fundamental respect for life
that has been given to us (but that we do not possess it!) and for the
world, which is our home, the only place where we can live.
Dissolution of the world, of our society and, ultimately, of our
souls. Where will all this take us?
In Nature everything is recycled. Dissolution is followed by
coagulation, using the alchemical language. But man cannot go through this
process unscathed. If the Earth and humanity dissolve, matter and energy
(and also our souls) will be reused, taking other forms. But it won't be us
anymore.
Will we tell our children about this? Is that all if we are able to
do?
Some technical notes. Two important alchemical elements were used in
the picture above: the alambic, of course, and the famous Porta Magica
(Magic Gate) which is located in a square in Rome, Italy.
The alembic is due to the civilization of Pyrgos, on the island of
Cyprus. Recent excavations have brought to light a laboratory for the
production of perfumes and other distillates from 1800 BC.
About the Porta Magica in Rome, it would be too long and complex. It
would be appropriate to go and read at least the page of Wikipedia
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porta_Alchemica
For those who understand Italian (or with the help of translators) it would
be better to read the page in Italian language that is wider and more
detailed:
https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porta_Alchemica
Even just mentioning here about alchemical science is obviously
impossible. On the Web you will find many dedicated websites and texts to
download, but even in this case you would need a basic knowledge to better
select the valid material from other less appropriate content.

Too true. Denn es regiert die Welt Nur Falschheit und das Geld ... and arrogance, selfishness, - well, I can see why some poeple regard Mankind as a virus, a disease, a plague, on this globe. Will we see the year 3,000? Splendid image.

One theory for the Nazca Lines is they were offerings to their gods for the much needed rain. The Egyptians believed only the Pharaohs could bring the life giving Nile foods. Both of these great civilizations have fallen due to climate changes and the lost in trust with their leaders, We think we can control nature, but can we overcome greed for money and power? I hope we can but natural selection will have last word (maybe it is the great alembic)! Very interesting presentation on this important topic! So well done and so much symbolism - I had to read it twice :)

What bothers me the most is the absolute denial of the events around us by those in power: Moral degradation, Wanton greed, and my favorite, planned obsolescence.
Powerful image and text.

Nice artwork, but you are ignorant in science. After looking at graphs from ice cores and many other graphs that measure climate change, it is quite clear, this time period has a more rapid increase in warming, than ever discovered previously.

Yeah, planned obsolescence gets to me too. I'm dealing with it right now, stove went again after 10 years. every 10 years the stove/fridge/washer breaks down. And what happens with them, they end up in the landfill because they are not economical to fix.

Well done image and an excellent narrative. We - as a species - believe ourselves intelligent and powerful. But we have a long long way to go before we can even think about challenging the forces of nature.

Thanks again for your annual message and master piece! I always look forward to this annual occurrence. You distill so much information into your descriptive. Perhaps if we evolve to a higher plain, some humans will appreciate the wisdom of your words! Many many thanks again for your insight and beautiful art work!

Great image!!! Excellent work!!! The signs of climate change have been with us for a long time. Pollution, overpopulation, indifference, and much more... our beautiful Earth, what have we done to you??? Very nice to see your wonderful work again! Hugs!

All I know is Gaia is pissed at the virus called Humanity and is getting her minions ready to do battle, the skirmishes have already started...we've been put on notice

Excellent art and excellent narrative. The Earth is on fire and man holds the answers in his hands. The lack of care and compassion we, as a species, exhibit is astounding and heartbreaking. We love to live in the here and now and give little thought to the future. We are running out of time and the future is upon us. I am angry that those in power, who have the means to really set wonderful things in motion, seem to do the least to help.
It's so wonderful to see your work, thank you for sharing this.

The world we knew won't come back, the time we've lost can't get it back, the life we had won't be ours again.
Fantastic work of art, dear friend!

This is beautiful work. In our arrogance, we have forgotten that the universal law of nature is to adapt. Not to deny what is happening, or to think we can control the environment to keep it as we would like, but to adapt to the changes that occur and that are beyond human control.

This is pretty cool. I like the variety of styles and techniques. The hands are photos, the face looks to be hand painted, and the jacket . . . ?
While the variety in styles is great, it is not seamless. I worry particularly much about the melding of photographs and painted elements. There is a heavy black line surrounding parts of the lab equipment that is very distracting. Even if you got rid of it though, I still worry that the edges might be too hard, so I would recommend adding some sort of blur effect around this part of the picture to hide some of those weird edges.
