Description

Somewhat counter-intuitively, the bull is a female sign, and has been associated with female deities from Mesopotamian Inana to Greek Io (mainly because Zeus turned the latter into a heifer to hide her from his jealous wife!). In the western tradition, Taurus (or Tauros if you prefer the Greek) is associated with the earth and growing things, symbolised by copper and emeralds and the colours brown and green. Steadfast (even bull-headedly stubborn) and usually calm though sometimes tempestuous, Taurus is ruled by Venus and so also embodies physicality in all its aspects.
