Description

I was testing a bunch of different glass materials. I think I like this one the best. This one I put together from this thread: https://forum.smithmicro.com/topic/1585/super-fly-coloured-glass/23 (mostly from BB) This scene uses snarlygribby's ezdome, which implements bagginsbill's environment sphere along with the convenience of sIBL. Super useful script. In this scene, there's the sphere, a sIBL set (ditch river) from http://hdrlabs.com/sibl/archive.html, one click in the script to add and apply, one click to add an "ezsun", and one more click to add the shadow catcher. So easy it's scary. I made the shape in Blender to be like the shape used in vincebagna's super shader icons, which does such a great job of showing off the materials in a single icon. I like the effect of the shape PLUS it was a great way to learn some modifiers and booleans in Blender. I did a first image using one of the glass shader in the supershaders pack. I really like that set. Well done, easy to use, and very complete set. My goto. Then I wanted to understand how a glass shader works. And that took me to the SM thread. I like this BB based mat setup since it covers all the bases (tinted shadows, reflections, etc.) As explained in the thread, there is some tuning that needs to happen since it's not real caustics. But it renders quickly. Only a couple of minutes even on my mid 2014 MBP. For some reason, in the last few days, I became obsessed with glass and getting a good glass mat that renders reasonably fast (for when glass is not the point of the image). I think it was for a project. Not that I ever get sidetracked. Anyway, comments, please. I've been looking at this too long and my brain hurts. Improvements? PS: I dread those SM forums going away. So much super valuable stuff in those threads.

Ah, now I have where it's failing. And I have no idea how to fix it. There's no reflection of the shadow plane back onto the objects. In reality, the shadow should be reflected back but all that's reflected is the dome.

Hmmmmm.....

Followed a thread on Cycles. Looks like stuff missing from Poser's version Cycles. Too bad they're not node for node compatible. Still, this problem seems to be the same for Cycles.
