Description
This is a solo "arpillera," a patchwork tapestry (applique), where every person, building, etc, is sewn-on separately. South American, a market scene...
Many of these artists---many of them women---barely make ends meet; they support their families and communities through their art.
I just wanted to share some of it with you---an affirmative message in a dark time. Thanks so much for taking them in!
I wish you all a fine rest of the week, mark

I love this kind of art. I went to a festival once with hundreds of quilters displaying their art, it was amazing to see the variety of techniques used.

What amazing color and infinitesimal detail! A wonderful tapestry woven by men and women, I bet many suffering from low blood sugar due to a lack of food, which causes one to shake, among other negative factors in health. And as you get up in years your hands can shake anyway even when well fed. So you can imagine the perseverance and pluck that went into the creation of this arpillera. And you got a terrific, clear as a bell, capture of it.

This is wonderful!!! The artistry and skill to sew such fine details is breathtaking. The people even have faces. I see farmers selling bananas, watermelon, pineapple and cabbages. Every person is in a different pose, too, the detail is amazing.
Thank you so much for sharing these treasures! Feel free to share any time, I think you made my life better by doing so. Thank you, Mark!

They are beautiful, the colors vibrant and son alive. Thanks for sharing them!! Btw...sent you an sitemail a ways back, did you get it? I also lost your regular email address when my old laptop died. Would love to reconnect!!!

stunning art craft and I love the colors and it looks like happy life - the most of the women doing this work have not this happy life at all... beautiful rich arpillera!

A whole community - so many stitches. A batik (?) sky. Brilliant.
Thank you so much for inviting us in. I also enjoy seeing photos of your neighborhood. I visited the Chicago Art Institute once in winter. The wind off that lake you photograph so beautifully whipped the breath right out of my lungs. I had no idea anything like that could even happen! Ah, fond memories. 😻

This is just amazing. Reminds me of such my mom made for Dennis, when he was little. I dont have it anymore. Some others got it in the family. Dont remember who we gave it to.
