Description

Hey, everyone! I know I’ve been a bit of a stranger here over the last week or so.. This little β€˜hiatus’ was the result of a number of things. In addition to a minor flood in my basement computer room (again), Jo had been having some issues with some anxiety attacks which were making her feel pretty rotten, and of course I was pretty concerned. We saw one of the doctors in our regular doctor’s office, and she was able to help a lot. She said their office has seen a real up-tick in cases like this in the past few weeks with everyone being stuck at home with all this COVID crap going on. She did prescribe some meds, but Jo seems to be doing better now since she knows it’s not just her going crazy. Me too! Restaurants are slowly starting to open for dine-in here with a few restrictions, and extra precautions. Today is our 49th (!) anniversary, and we were actually able to celebrate at our favorite steak / seafood place. It’s been 4 months since we were able to go out for a nice meal. It felt so good. Anyway…. About the art…. We’ve been going through a lot of stuff here at the house – doing some down-sizing since we want to get out of this place at some (hopefully not too distant) future time. I had forgotten that I had some old artwork stored in my home-built art / drafting table.. This piece was among several poster-sized works I’d done well over 18 years ago, when we were in our first house. This piece is mostly airbrush, with a bit of watercolor brushwork, and maybe a tiny bit of colored pencil work. I was relatively happy with most of it, except for her face and hands. No matter how I tried, I just never seemed to be able to get the hands or faces to look the way I had envisioned. Most of my airbrushed girls had faces more suited to a guy than a girl. Airbrushes can give you some wonderful results, but they don’t come with facial morph dials, unfortunately. This (physical) painting is huge – it took 8 scans then a trip through some stitching software I have that does a great job. It would have taken me hours to do the stitching in Photoshop. I’ll be popping in more often and will be putting in a lot of time on the next TNA page over the weekend. I’m doing a ton of re-organizing and getting rid of a bunch of stuff I’ve been hoarding for years (since the other house). I’m also going to be putting in a lot of time getting this place fixed up and doing some needed repairs and improvements. I just posted a new BEHIND THE SCENES to my You Tube channel where I talk a bit about our future plans. Hope you’re all doing well! As always, thanks so much for stopping by, and for all your wonderful comments and support! Now, I need to start catching up with all your inspirational art! Rod this is neat! The hands look right to me, and doing anything with airbrush is SO HARD! Glad you are having a little of normalcy in the middle of all this--remind Jo that THE WHOLE PLANET'S got anxiety so she is not alone! And Happy Anniversary!

Thanks, Andy.... But you should hear how those pixels scream bloody murder when you force 'em through an airbrush.... 🀣

This is really awesome Rod! I love to see people's original 2D work. She looks girly enough for me and if its any consolation I'd say hands are one of the most difficult parts to recreate on the body after the face. I like the whole vibe this gives off and I really like cello. They have a lot of dynamic range and seeing one in an image really evokes emotions from romance to tense thriller, to happy thoughts and melancholy. Nice work.

I love the colors in the sky and the shape and coloring of the trees. Her face is very pretty; her eyes, lips and cheeks are soft and appealing and her hands look fine, to me. I hope you keep this art because it's lovely work.

First off, congrats on your 49th Wedding Anniversary :) That really is a life time...hope you and Jo have many more happy years together...

Really like this piece, which I'd say could be considered "naΓ―ve art"...the colors are clean and compliment each other nicely. Love the shrubbery and that cello looks like you could pluck a string and it would sing for you.

Wow, what an amazing talent you have for this kind of art. She is gorgeous and shading is super. Working free hand and creating something from scratch is a skill of a true artist. Well done Rod!

First, I'm glad Jo is ok, and I'm sorry she was so badly effected by everything. As you say, she's barely alone: Lots of people are down from the last months (and from our terrible leadership to boot). I hope she feels a lot better soon. Second, I'm glad you could go to one of your favorite restaurants---I almost forgot restaurants existed...I hope that's a harbinger of much better things to come. (And on your anniversary, which is really special...) And third: I love this painting!!! It's like a fairy tale or folktale painting. It's got magical light, the highlights on the trees and bushes are magical, and they are shaped like magical trees---they're like plush carpeting...Then, you must have used brushes in the sky---or else your airbrush work is really stroke-like: I love the pink wisps in the clouds...and your color sense is magical as well. I see a woman's face in the woman (ie, not a man), and she's in a beautiful purple, her hair's like the bushes---rolling and plush---and you highlighted the cello in beautiful lights. The blue of the bench is another great color contrast---this is magical, Rod! I've seen many styles from you, but this is a first: A scene from a magic folktale. And a great choice for when everyone is down...Plus, a great magical lantern, and little starbursts everywhere (incl her earrings). Pure magic. And how did you ever learn to do airbrush so well? I did it years ago, and it was awful! You have all kinds of hidden talents!

(tom/busnouveau reacted to your date---lol---I thought it was "I 94"---as in "Interstate 94". I was gonna say, man, highways in your part of the country are outa sight! Green, plush, magical---that's a highway!)

Finally, I saw your BTS video: Wow, you set real goals. I wish you all the best in the work ahead, and in finalizing where you want to go. It's such a big decision; and I wish you two the very best. I can understand getting away from all that noise---I moved here for that reason long ago---it's just much harder as we get older. I appreciate how big this is for you two. All the best, Rod. May it unfold with the least amount of stress, and may it lead to great, peaceful happiness!
