Description

Bear with me. I got three posts to make. All these were from earlier this month. First, I know the sleeves are clean where they are rolled up. I struggled for hours to fix that. Somehow, the geo-shell won't do anything else. It's been frustrating, because I like that outfit for the character. Anyway. This is one take of a character I've been mulling over. It ised the Pixel character from the Daz store. I've since swapped, but that will be the next post. (Joan) She's a mechanic, and the eventual romantic partner of my character Lola. She's a mother - got pregnant at a very young age. Her dad was a mechanic, and she started helping around the shop since he was taking care of them both. So she's become a mechanic in her own right. Lola meets her when she's trying to get parts for an old van she wants to fix up to take to conventions. Joan offers to help - she loves the work. That's her entry into the story. Her son, Brian, sometimes comes over, too. The van needs quite a bit of TLC, so a friendship forms. Later that will develop into something more, but that will be a few books down the line. Lola, by the way, loves kids. She tends to play dinosaurs with Brian when he's brought along (He'll be the third post.) Just because I swapped the base model, doesn't mean that i don't like this picture, so I wanted to share, and also give a little incite in the character design process. I liked the model, but she doesn't really have the "Mom" look I was going for. I just wanted an excuse to use Pixel. I actually tried to "butch" up the character to overcome the softness of her features once. I won't share that. Pixel ended up looking androgynous/masculine and missed the mark completely. Here, Pixel looks sufficiently feminine while covered in oil and posing in a silly fashion. I'm tempted to go back, add some makeup, change the lighting a bit, and turn it into a proper pinup where the clean rolls of the sleeves won't matter so much.

she's a bit sloppy with the grease, but I bet she does a good job.

I figure the old truck behind her did not give up its oil pan without a fight, lol. I'd like to take it further one of these days, so some sexy dirty mechanic pinup art. That's a thing, right?

She really gets into her work! That cleanup of greasy dirt is a real challenge! Splendid image.

Thank you very much, RG19. I think she'll stick around, as Joan's sister.

Fascinating to read about your creative process. I really enjoy learning how other artists approach an idea.

I'd say this lady definitely gets into her work!

Much thanks! I'm just glad somebody takes the time to read it. I know I can be long-winded, bit that's sort of an occupational hazard.

Thanks again.

You’re so very detailed in creating these characters. I think it is sometimes easier to write about them then to create them in render form. It’s obviously a bit much to expect such a good writer to also be into creating geometry and skins that perfectly match up to the written word. You do a fine job at getting the point across. You’re very talented.

😊 That's very kind of you to say. I'm no good drawing with a pencil. I've been really happy to discover Daz 3d, and to get into using it. It's much the same with miniatures. I couldn't sculpt one to any great detail, but I can paint them to an amazing degree. I'm thinking of uploading photos of that one of these days, to the photo gallery.

As far as writing goes, I've always wanted to be a write. It was the first thing I wrote in my Kindergarten journal, lol.

Thank you for having a look. I can see the pictures in my head, and Daz 3d gives me the tools to bring them to life.
