I am the author Lyle Aryn. Writing is my first love, my one true passion. Every since I was able to string a sentence together, it's all I've wanted to do. Websites where you can find my work and more are below.
I started using Daz Studio October 23rd of 2018, just as something to dink around with. I'd been signed up with the sight for a while, and would occasionally remember to check for freebies. I was surprised at what I had when I finally loaded up the program. I just started playing around with it, figuring it out. I'd say about 92% of what I've learned in the program I've learned just by playing around with it.
In December I went from being a dutiful son looking after his mom, to the full-time, no nights or weekends off, caretaker of my Mom. As someone who struggles with depression, anxiety and a mood disorder or two, this change has had a drastic impact on my own personal care and well-being. I turned to my blossoming love of doing digital art as a way to cope with the mountains of stress on my shoulders. I do miniature painting, too. But when you haven't slept in 4 days, handling a brush can be very messy. Not being able to paint to my own personal satisfaction was making this avenue of relaxation increasingly frustrating.
Daz Studio has an undo button that you just don't get with painting miniatures.
As my skill with the program grows, so does my confidence. I did the cover to my fifth novel, "Because the Night" using Daz Studio, as well as new covers for two previous releases. (Though they haven't been updated just yet.)
I'm looking to always improve my artistic work, no matter what the medium, and Daz Studio is no different.

Nicely done. Lenny may not want to make friends with that wonderful dog, but I sure would.
LyleAryn
Thanks. She knows he's good boy. She just can't help being a little intimidated..
Skye is going to take a liking to Barry, when they meet. She's definitely a dog person. And a cat person. And a parakeet person. Skye has a weakness for animals.

Awesome image! Fantastic work!
LyleAryn
Thank you, Deva! Love your work.

Yes, Barry's 'puppy' does look rather intimidating. But I'll bet he has a heart of gold for the ones he loves! A marvelous image! Very nicely staged and realized.
LyleAryn
Thanks. I hope the illustrations elevate the book, so I'm putting in the extra effort.

Cool scene and characters....great use of lighting, textures and materials.....Top work and render...!!
LyleAryn
Thanks! I'm thinking of doing individual portraits of Gordon and Barry. Thinking I might even put a portrait gallery in the back of the book. Might be a nice touch. Maybe have Barry carrying the crowbar like a chew bone.
bucyjoe
great

Thank you!

A grand scene and a wonderful use of emmissives. Do they require render power when many are used? Thak you for sharing the emmissive concept with me. It is a grand render. Each character is so well designed in geometry and in word. Well done.
LyleAryn
Thank you.
Yeah, emmissives can up the render time, especially if they're set to project the light. I find for most indoor scenes, I prefer to use emmsives, set up where the lights would actually come from. In this case, the enviroment has a surface node for the "bulbs" in the overhead lights. I didn't like how they lit up through the iray textures for the set, so I ended up fiddling with them. Spooky is okay, but Lenny does keep the lighting fully functional in this facility.

Obviously I'm a cat person too, but I really like Barry.
Now we need to breed a watch-cat, and let the mayhem ensue.
LyleAryn
Think Barry would probably let himself be pushed around by Lenny's cat, if they ever met.
The cat is obsessed with feet.
RodS
Yeah, I agree with Shawn... Barry would probably enjoy a play buddy even if it was a cat.. LOL
This is done so well - with feeling and honor for Gordon. Those EOD guys have every bit of admiration and respect I can muster.
Great job on the lighting here, as always! Keep 'em coming.
For those unfamiliar with military-speak, EOD is "Explosive Ordinance Disposal." I.E. defusing / disabling bombs, IEDs (Improvised Explosive Device) and the like. Very dangerous work.
LyleAryn
Thanks. I guess I forgot to break up the jargon there. That is a high-adrenaline job. I got mad respect for those that do it, and want to represent, in some small way, the admiration I have for our military.
Gordon, as described in the book, "practices the art of being chill." He wants to be seen as more than just a soldier as he reintegrates. I'm hoping to explore how he met Lenny at some point. It's an interesting story.
Thanks for stopping by. I gotta be careful when I write about Barry, because if it's from Lenny's POV, she's always going to be a little afraid of him. From Lola's? She gets all playful. And if I every write from Skye's POV, she simply loses her mind around pretty animals and turns into a puddle of goo.
I admit I was inspired by Pixie and Brutus when it came to Barry. Originally, Gordon didn't have a dog. But once I realized a dog was a good fit, I picked up the stuff to make it happen. Our retired service animals face a tough road here at home, too. Love to all of them..

I could tease the hell out of my friend Barry, with this storyline. Seriously, it's so pure and sensitive at the same time. I like this very much indeed!
LyleAryn
Thank you very much. I'm glad you like it.
