Description

This is an illustration for my new book, which I still need to come up with a title for. This would be for Chapter Four. Lola is in college for fashion design. It is just a few days before her final presentation, and the model who was going to wear the outfit cancels on her. There's a little more to it then that, but the end result is that Lola is pretty upset. Lenny is there to give some comfort to her friend, and volunteers to walk the stage for the presentation. If you've seen the image of Lenny wearing the red dress, this scene would take place *before* that one. I've kinda been doing my illustrations as I've been inspired, and now that I'm starting the editing phase I'm sorta starting to fill in the gaps. I figure about 2 illustrations per chapter, with a few extras thrown in here and there, and POSSIBLY a portrait gallery. It's my first time doing this sort of thing, but I figure it's worth a shot. Since the project started as an attempt to do a web comic, I feel it's important to still have art be a pretty big part of it. I've recently opened a Deviantart, under "LyleAryn." It's not fully fleshed out yet, but I plan on posting some story samples there, along with art you've seen here. I'm not entirely sure how exactly to best utilize Deviantart, but I figure if I widen my nets I might catch more fish. As much as I love doing the art, my passion is writing and now that I've completed seven books, (six in print already) I really want to do whatever I can to bring in more readers. I did some interesting things with the lighting, kinda utilizing the older textures to make the scene feel a bit more graphic-novel-like. I really wanted a sewing machine, and only found ONE model, with surfaces that aren't very friendly towards reskinning, so I'm trying to make do, adding in a table that was also fairly low-detail, against walls that are also a little low-detail. The walls aren't too bad if you light them right, but in this case I leaned into a particular style, just using mesh lights to try and nail that composite graphic look. I'm not sure if I succeeded, but I like the end result, so...
