Description
This was a fun little exercise. I took the newly released Ki from the Freestuff store and went to town. I found her oddly-colored skin to be intriguing, and set about putting together a scene, doing a total of 3 Twitch broadcasts as I worked through everything. Sometimes I like to do art using just freebies. In this case, I wanted to take a few select freebies and really go to work. I set up a scene I liked, utilized a neat pose from richardandtracy (with a little bit of tweaking for those wide hips)
First of all, she was just TOO grey. Her eyes were monochrome grey, her lips, her skin. I suspect this is so you can just adjust the base color to get different skin/eye/lip tones? My first step was to do a quick render to see what I had to work with. I decided to follow the monochrome themes, changing the textures on the door to black and white, applying a shaded black lipstick. The outfit got colored with grey and black velvet shaders, with purple thrown in for the visual interest. From there she got the default eyes from Aryn for Genesis 8 Females. They are amazing eyes, as I've said, and I felt they would work well with all the neutral colors.
After that, I set up the camera. This took a little fine-tuning. Originally I had it set back further, but felt bringing it in suited the scene better. Which meant adjust the set so the door would still show. From there, it was just a matter of setting up the DOF to soften the background, and get started on my lighting.
For that, I set up two spotlights. One set real close to the wall, above the door, pointed at the wall. Out of frame, and casting a green light like you might see from an exit sign. This served to better define her in the frame. The second spotlight was drawn back outside the set, using the wall to block off some of it so we'd get some shadows. Nothing too fancy. I upped the tempt to 7200 though in order to "cool" the scene. The green light was lowered to 5400 so it would be nice a warm. The contrast doing a splendid job of drawing our focus where it needs to go.
Also of note. Usually I go with a 2x3 aspect ratio. On this one, I went with a 1x2, tightening the shot to further keep the eyes the main focus of the image.
This was a lot of fun to do, and hopefully serves as an adequate showcase of this excellent character model. I'm going to play around with the base color settings next time, to see what happens. For this time, I wanted her fairly vanilla, with a pair of eyes that will draw you in. Hope it pleases ya!

Given your statement, you've really made the skin look great here, no one would know where you began. You pay far more attention to your stages of work than I do, if I was this alert to the same details I think my head would explode. Normally I just zone out and if anyone asks how I did it I shrug and say "I dunno." Wonderful achievement here, not the least of which is your charted progress. Because of that you would make an amazing teacher too I think. Also it's really nice that you make a shout out to the freebie guys... definitely a labour of love for them :)

You really pulled it all together. The Rim lighting in green is exquisite. The use of the purple is so eye catching. I love the texture work and then of course there is Her. She is a really sympathetic character that one wants all the best for. She has that look that says that's probably not to be but I am still pulling for her. I feel this one. Well done.

In school, every box of crayons had the same colors, but that didn't mean we would make the same art. I think the same applies here. As we go, we start to see the shapes, the colors, all the little things that can be broken down or used for something unexpected. Art is all about that, I think.

thanks for the excellent info. i have said in the past, that i wan't really good at 'light" skin. which is why most of my stuff is ebony women. thought i would let others tinker with the skin to their liking and i would provide a decent looking morphs for the light models ♥️🙂

Thanks. I think she just wants to be friends. There's this skin condition that causes the pigment to die out. The story-teller in me wants to say she has an advanced form of this disease, and has been dealing with bullies calling her "Zombie Girl" her whole life. shrugs

Thank you! I thinknits fine to detail the nuts and bolts sometimes. When I'm on stream I know it looks like art just "happens" but a lot of work goes into, and experience.
