Description

A follow-up to my previous work. Same character, only now brought into a more steam-punk inspired setting. A "Sky Ranger" taking a break while on patrol. It's one of those pieces that you just have to keep fiddling with. Originally I had the old "Evil Slime" figure in the scene to be her familiar, but it looked really out of place. I don't yet have the skill to manipulate it into looking like it's made of slime, instead of rubber. So, I ditched Sheila for now. We'll just say that's she's afraid of heights. This also meant losing some of the slime effects, as they now all looked out of place. All that time setting up the dForce slime simulations... Oh well. I'm sure I'll get use out of the prop set elsewhere! Just a little bit of work to the Rocketeer stuff to make ti all match well, and now I'm sharing it with you.l I've rendered this three times now, at about 7 hours per render. I'm glad I didn't just accept the previous attempt though - the changes made between versions elevated it to the next level. I played around a lot with the clothing, before I finally gave in and used the YVAS. (Your Very own Adventure Suit) It's a nice set, and works well here. I bought it for a purpose, and it just feels weird using it anywhere else. Then again, so does this model! I use this model for a villain character in my series, though with different hair. I think I'm going to tweak it a little bit. Maybe do something with the nose. Because Periwinkle is just about the opposite of who AJ is. Anyway, at first I had the jacket that came with the helmet and jetpack, from the very awesome Rocketman set here on Renderosity. But getting it to look right on her just wasn't working. No surprise, it was built for a man's physique. (Hey Pamawo, how about a female version???) By the time I took care of the vacuum affect, it looked much too bulky. She's not especially "large" in the chest area, but getting it to cooperate just wasn't hitting that sweet spot with me. I tried a few other shirts. I already had pants and boots that I liked. I ended up on YVAS, and ditched the pants entirely for the built-in shorts, as well as using the boots from the YVAS set as well. I realized that the boots I had were too loose and in aerial maneuvers would quickly be lost. I also like the more peter-pan look of the shorts versus full pants. In her leisure time she usually goes barefoot, but in doing these last two I decided that shoes were in order. Then, of course, we needed her gear. Having found the excellent Renaissance set her on Renderosity, I wa ready with a Rapier AND a proper sheath for it. WOOHOO. I decided upon a repeater firearm, figuring that the Sky Rangers would have the very best. A flintlock makes no sense for the air. I was a little disappointed that I didn't have one with a rifle strap though. We'll just pretend she's got some clips on the back of her suit. She's a bit rowdy. Feisty. She likes to "tussle" and is a bit oblivious that she is interested in "boy" things. I'm looking forward to playing her again in the near future. I'm tempted to write a book following the character on an adventure. She another that was meant to be something "quick" for a few games but has since taken on a life of her own. I get back to my writing work tomorrow. I suspect that means another illustration will be popping up soon. Not quite sure what fun I'll come up with tonight, but I know I'll probably be getting into Daz before much longer. Thanks for looking, and thanks for the feedback.

A great angle. I love that red light on all those metallics.

Thank you. I figured a little reactor glow was in order. That took a bit of finessing to get it to that sweet spot. At least, I think it's at the sweet spot. Thanks for stopping by!

Wow, Lyle! And what Rose said. This should be a magazine cover. Amazing work.:)

Thank you! I'm so glad you like it. I think I might make her into something of a poster child for the RPG system I've been developing. These are just too fun not to use elsewhere.

Very cool picture! Reading your description of this character, I can see why you like playing her.

Thanks. She's just so much fun. The last session we did play, I ended up avoiding ALL the combat encounters the DM prepared, and he loved it because his normal group wants nothing BUT combat encounters.

Beautiful! Love a good bit of Steampunk, and this fits the bill perfectly!

3:12AM | Mon, 24 August 2020

Thank you. I don't do it often, but that isn't because I'm not a fan. So often steampunk relies on all these little details, and that can take time to set up. In writing I've avoided it entirely because I feel strongly about having it told in a noir-style and I haven't honed my noir-style writing well enough. Ah well, maybe in the future. I have a few steampunk ideas floating around my brain.

have a great week. I look forward to your next piece!

For slime you likely want a fair bit of sss going on, but don't use a solid hue, try a texture map with some swirly or cloudy things going on? I dunno, just a thought. I also find wet surfaces are difficult to pull off and not have them just looking slick and polished.

LyleAryn

11:52AM | Mon, 24 August 2020

Yeah, that's been the challenge. I'll play around with it sometime soon and see what I can come up with. Thanks for stopping by. Have a good evening.

"Hi, excuse me, do you have the time?" SLAP "What you think I look like??" lol You know in some places when you're asking a girl "Do you have the time?" what really means is: "Are you a prostitute? lol" Have a wonderful week, luv your work!

Lol. Periwinkle would look for the watch she doesn't have, and then apologize for not having one and completely forgetting about the giant clock behind her as all that went over her head.

And hopefully being armed with a Rapier and a repeater, the propositioner would then drop it.

Ahhh I got my wish. To see her as the Rocketeer. She is very charming and that is a great suit and scene for her to live in. A very enjoyable view, You do some really fine work.

Thank you. I'd feel very safe with her patrolling the skies. Officially sanctioned or not. The Rocketman set was a wonderful addition to the marketplace when it popped up, but I didn't get it then. And I sorta forgot it until I realized that Periwinkle needed to be a Sky Ranger. It's a great set, and I think I'm going to have to do some more fun art with it. And Sky Ranger Periwinkle will definitely need another scene!

I bought special for this. Ended up removing the glass though because it was reflecting my lighting rig. I think it looks better this way. Might have to see what I can do to add some grime for a more dilapidated scene. Thanks for leaving your comment! I'm glad you like her.

😊

Thanks ADC. That's really nice to hear, and sweet of you to say. I'm glad you like her. Now I like the model so much I've got to change out my villain in my series. Not too big a deal since she hasn't actually shown up yet, but still. She's just too cute to think of as mean and evil. :) So glad you could stop by for a viewing.

Yessir! She looks like the kind of lady just right for the team. I'll send her an application!

Awesome and realistic work here, bro! Lots of great detail, and I really like the gritty steampunk look here. Well done!

My DAZ Studio took a giant dump on me a couple days ago, so it might be a while before I can do anything DAZ. I've completely wiped it from my DAZ machine (all assets are safely backed up), and will install from scratch in a few days. Always something..

LyleAryn

1:06PM | Sat, 29 August 2020

I'm getting ready to do a wipe myself, to fix issues I've been having. They REALLY need to work on the freamwork for the next major release. Removal from the system is a chore. I'm basically going to reinstall windows. Haven't YET because it's such a chore and I've been limping it along.

In your experience, have you had luck restoring customized characters? That's really the only thing I'm worried about. I'll back up their save files, and double-check to make sure I back up any custom skins. But I'm still nervous that if I do the wipe I might lose Lenny and the girls.
