Description

I had this idea the other day. This is for a friend. A while back we made this character. Her name is Azraille. She started as a drawing that my friend made, and I sorta just ran with it. I livestreamed so she could input and we made some really pretty art. (I haven't posted it. Maybe I will. It's really good, too.) I was walking the other day, and I got to thinking about "Embers in the Rain." And then this is the result. My friend loves it, and I love it, and obviously I had to share it. Azraille isn't an angel, nor a vampire either. (There's fangs! You can even see them!) She's a creation born entirely from my friend's mind. An assassin in a gothic-esque world. She has very white skin, and long white hair with black tips. A beauty-mark on her cheek. She's a badass. (At least I think so!) LOT'S going on here. I used coflek-gnorg's Fire and Water and Flink's rain at first.Which aren't iray. The Fire wasn't an emissive. I started to doubt. Added an ember field from iray fireworx. Pale skin meant she turned orange. Almost gave up. Rain wasn't showing up. I had the pose great. dforce on the outfit worked fine. Hair started out as 'dForce Long wet hair' but that wouldn't take the shaders I wanted. I decided to try the normal I hair I use, with the "white" part tinted a little darker, and gravity turned up so it would hopefully cling. I think that worked out just fine. I like the results, anyway. Next, I went to work on the water. A water shader didn't help. Then I remembered an old trick in Hollywood where they would use milk curds as rain because water wouldn't show up in black and white. So I shaded the water grey. I made the firehail emmisive. And while it no longer looks remotely like water, it was reflecting the fire. I moved the ember field behind her. At this point I was starting to fall in love with the piece. BUT. It's supposed to be "embers in the rain." I worked on the environment a bit. Got my storm clouds from "Dreadful skies." "Forsaken Village," and "Purgation" for the set. Got my lantern positioned and looking mighty fine. Got out "iray storms." Added the rain prop and the fog prop and dangit, the rain still wasn't showing up in render! And like an idiot, I realized that this is IRAY. I added a spotlight. Wide-angle, set to "rectangle" mode. height/width to 350. Turned up the lumens until the rain showed up. 24 hours render time later, and here we are! I set the iterations super high (broke the parameters), and just stopped it when it felt done. (72% of 35,000) Amazingly, it all fit in my video memory. Even that hair, which so often can be the difference between a GPU render and a CPU render, lol. I love the Jam hair, but man can it suck the resources sometimes! I hope folks like it. I think it might be the best one I've done thus far in my journey. It made my friend happy, and that's most important to me. Have a lovely day, ~~LA

Patience? OCD+Insomnia, lol. Thanks a bunch. I was nervous all the way up until the rain started rendering in when it was "cooking." Up until about 40% it just looked blurry.

Thank you. A friend of mine said he thought of "Jack the Ripper" when he saw it, because of the spooky lighting and the lantern. I figure since she's an assassin, that was appropriate. You have a wonderful day. Eat some cookies and milk, and find somebody to massage your feet.

A very successful and compelling render.. You do some amazing work. What is deepest in our mind often reveals itself in our art. Yikes, i probably should seek professional help. This one has some real dreamlike depth to it.
