Description

Another illustration from the book! I know what you're thinking. The last one had fashion models, and this one is clearly a fantasy fight scene. What the heck kind of story is he writing?! Well, the ladies are part of a guild that plays an MMO, and this would be a scene from their gameplay. This is Lola's character, "BoxyFox" (blue hair) and Misty's character, "MistyBear" (Medusa). Lola was just three Stone Lions away from leveling up, and Misty offered to come along and help. Her next "in-game" character render will feature her level-up gear and new "mystic" grade weapon. Which I got to figure out how to do in 3DL. This is my favorite 3delight render I've done. There should be shadows, but other than that I really like it. It's got a nice dynamic feel to it. Originally I was going to build a GUI for all the in-game renders, but I figured it was more work than it was worth. For one thing, most would be cropped away to fit the 6x9 format. We'll just pretend that she turns the GUI off for screenshots. I like how the staff turned out. It's called the "Staff of the Snake Queen." A perfect piece of gear to go with Misty's character. Also, now that I put in the work to really make it special, I've also created a snake queen for them to eventually encounter in-game. Lol. That's Sixus' Lamia, but with legs. There's got to be an easier way to pose snake tails! I spent more than an hour spiraling it around a rod and there was a brief power outage. Decided I didn't want to go through that again, lol. This looks better anyway. At least I tell myself that. Now I've got to do a render of the Snake Queen proper. It's shots like these that make me think I ought to do more with 3DL... Have a great day, and thanks for looking!

Great stuff!

Yup, can't seem to get on with 3DL, I just end up reverting to iRay. This is awesome though, makes me think I should persevere...

Setting distant lights instead of spotlights made a difference. I think the skydome is why the shadows aren't working. It's odd, because usually it spend a bunch of time figuring out the shadows before it starts to render. I've checked. Everything that should be enabled to have shadows is enabled. There are sahdows on the figure. But the ground? I think they're there, just really faint.

So. My excuse for the purpose of the illustration? It's a video game. She turned the shadows down for performance. Yeah... we'll go with that.

I get it. Lighting can make or break a picture. I've had art sit on my computer for months trying to get the lighting right. Love the action sequence. The character of BoxyFox looks really awesome. Good Luck with the story

Thank you. Yeah. The shadows on the character are really nice, too. If I figure it out, I'll just re-render. Not like it takes long with 3DL.

Yeah, it's a screen shot from the game - I can go along with that! 👍👍 Either way, it looks great! Super work, good sir!

I'm not much of a gamer myself, but if the graphics looked this good, I could get into it!

Thank you. It was much fun. The setup took much longer than the render. Or at least, the second render. I found out that if you have iray shaders loaded on a lion's mane, and run 3DL, it wants to take FOREVER. But. Once I loaded it back with 3DL shaders... It was pretty quick. Lesson learned!

Thanks. Can't wait to show her next outfit. In-universe, she's been prepping for this particular level-up. It's a level when you start to be able to use adaptive gear. Going to be fun showing off the outfit Lola has next. Maybe I'm due to just straight-up do a portrait of the character.

Great dynamic scene! I have to admit though I'm a fan of Iray. It does take forever it seems at times but I normally like the results I end up with. We all have our preferences, I'm just glad we have the choice :)

I prefer iray as well. Needed a different look, though, for the "in-game" illustrations for my book.
