I am the author Lyle Aryn. Writing is my first love, my one true passion. Every since I was able to string a sentence together, it's all I've wanted to do. Websites where you can find my work and more are below.
I started using Daz Studio October 23rd of 2018, just as something to dink around with. I'd been signed up with the sight for a while, and would occasionally remember to check for freebies. I was surprised at what I had when I finally loaded up the program. I just started playing around with it, figuring it out. I'd say about 92% of what I've learned in the program I've learned just by playing around with it.
In December I went from being a dutiful son looking after his mom, to the full-time, no nights or weekends off, caretaker of my Mom. As someone who struggles with depression, anxiety and a mood disorder or two, this change has had a drastic impact on my own personal care and well-being. I turned to my blossoming love of doing digital art as a way to cope with the mountains of stress on my shoulders. I do miniature painting, too. But when you haven't slept in 4 days, handling a brush can be very messy. Not being able to paint to my own personal satisfaction was making this avenue of relaxation increasingly frustrating.
Daz Studio has an undo button that you just don't get with painting miniatures.
As my skill with the program grows, so does my confidence. I did the cover to my fifth novel, "Because the Night" using Daz Studio, as well as new covers for two previous releases. (Though they haven't been updated just yet.)
I'm looking to always improve my artistic work, no matter what the medium, and Daz Studio is no different.

I'm impressed, it looks completely different. But... I prefer the first one! Personally, I like the darker, moodier look, but for every one like me, there will be at least three that think the other way!
Still a five star image though!
LyleAryn
I think I like the moodier look, too. But thought a little practice with GIMP couldn't hurt.

excellent

Thanks

Some very lovely shades for sure. A most interesting render. As far a post goes, I usually run through some standard color correction functions just to see. Often I find myself reverting back to the original because auto corrections tend to be rather bland.I gotta say Layers are always a handy way to incorporate many subtle changes into a render. (i.e. precise hair styling, fixing boo-boo's, adding a touch of extra lighting here and there.) A most enjoyable image...Well done.
LyleAryn
Yes. If I plan it out, that's one thing. Layers are the way to go. In this case, I just attempted to make it "lighter" since a few people mentioned it being "too dark."
It was kinda meant to be a bit dark. Aslan lights up REALLY well, and if you load a preset it's actually a little difficult to get it to darken the way you want.
Anywho, a fun exercise. I'm taking a break from the cleaning for the night, I think, and I'm going to bump around in Daz. Today's sale earned some new stuff. Free starter set? Free pro set if I spend $5? How can I resist?
(No really. How do I resist?)

I think I prefer the original. The details are sharper in the original. But then it depends on what you are going for. :)
LyleAryn
Thanks! That's my thought as well.
Usually, if an image comes out too dark, I go into Daz to adjust lighting. I know people can do amazing things with photo editing software, but I think my strong suit is getting a good render and not needing to manipulate the result. I rendered the original to suit my taste and mood. I kinda like this version, but still think the original is better. Because it was what I was going for. A little moodier, and with a sharply defined face.

She still looks great, but I'll go along with you and the others that preferred the original version. I do tend to like a bit of "punch" or contrast. Maybe too much sometimes. Striking a balance can be a bear at times. I don't know how Gimp works as I'm a Photoshop junkie, but I do know I can spend totally ridiculous amounts of time fiddling and tweaking an image - especially the TNA stuff.. I'm such a geek.... 😜
LyleAryn
Nothing wrong with that. This gave me a chance to try something new... and hate it, lol.
I think I just do better working in a 3d space, and working with spotlights, and etc.
jmattatall
I think somewhere in between the two. But then I prefer images with more contrast. I like the image though it definitely has a moody feel.
LyleAryn
Thank you! This actually helps me.
I don't know if its been mentioned, but I'm actually color-blind. So I tend towards higher contrast. I'm also pretty light sensitive, so my screen is actually a bit darker than default.
Madbat
Hmmm...hard to say which I prefer. The first one really highlights her face well, and draws focus there, but this one has overall better visual detail. I'd say this image would be a good candidate for adjustment layers, and paint in the highlights and darks.
LyleAryn
Hmm... something I might have to play around with. I'll try and give it a go in a day or two, and see what I come up with.
starship64
Nicely done! You might want to try increasing the contrast as well, and see how that looks.
LyleAryn
Thanks! And yeah, I think I'll be playing with it again. It's good for practice. I've been so tired lately I just haven't put in quite as much time as I should.
hashdoc
great outfit and pose! She looks ready for some fun!
LyleAryn
It seems like she's thinking about getting into some mischief.
Thanks!

I agree that the original has a darker mood and atmosphere - this one shows up better on my screen.
LyleAryn
The cover work I did for my latest novel has made me aware that when something is printed it tends to print darker. I got a copy, and I'm pretty bummed because you can't hardly see anything. I spent hours getting everything "just right." I got to fiddle with it, re-run it, and then resubmit the cover. Grr.
I guess this image shows that not all screens are going to show the same thing mine does. I run a nice TV for my monitor, but I actually have the backlight turned down a bit because I have sensitive eyes.
I thank you for the input. It's definitely something to think about when I set up a scene. It's possible adding in a gentle fill light, or just turning up the current spotlight just a tiny bit would make it better overall. I'll have to play with it.
Kordouane
I prefer this version but it's all a matter of taste
LyleAryn
That's what makes art so great, isn't it? And with render art, you got the added bonus of being able to make alternate versions, and subtle changes between.
Thanks for the feedback!
Radar_rad-dude
I like the previous one better. She looks a little flat here. Not enough contrast. But still a nice version.
LyleAryn
Thanks! It helps to know that.
