oh I see, another touch of your humor, 1001 nights of tales to tell the cat so that it does not cut short the life of this beautiful bird. Very beautiful harmony of textures and light for an atmosphere of tales.:)

Thanks for the generous comments. My initial thought was to further explore the idea of captivity by having the bulbul in a cage, echoing the window lattice, but it ended up looking a bit peculiar and you could hardly discern the bird at all... so this was the compromise.
