Description

The band of adventurers had traveled for nearly a month to the port city of Hykor. They were a group that had been in each others company for years. They were experienced and very well traveled and had fought many a beast and bested many quests. So when one of thier number began having a not unpleasant, but pervasive recurring dreams they knew far better than to dismiss it. They had come to Hykor of all places in search of a wizard. At first it had started as a gypsy, but quickly escalated. In Glantri they learned that there was only one wizard that may unlock the secrets of this dream and mayhap bring about it's end. The wizards name was Micheal, of Hoth. While the prime city of the hykoian empire would indeed be the last place a mage of any kind might be it was assured that was where he would most likley be found. After entering the city, with thier own mage suitably disguised they began to seek this wizard. Oddly, there were several that not only had heard of this wizard, but knew where he would be found. With many twists and turns of the narrow streets of Hykor they happened upon this wizards haunt. It was a small and cool square that had a tiny tavern and a home for foundlings. As they drew near the din of the city faded into what seemed and single voice and the occasional laugh and excited exclamation. On entering the square the adventurers found it near full of children and a few adults. All were sitting or standing facing a tallish white hair and bearded man in slightly off white mage attire. The man seemed to completely enrapture all in the square as he seemed to tell stories with wisps of smoke looking like dragons and knights. Not a soul seemed to notice the new arrivals as the old man finished his tale to the clapping and sheer glee of those listening. He nodded graciously and looked over the crowd as if the happiness he saw was all the payment he desired. His blue eyes seemed to pass over the band. The wizard smiled. "Now dear ones, how would you like to hear a secret. One that only appears in dreams?" he asked in a grandfatherly way. The crowd all nodded silently with huge smiles. The mage of the group noticed that the wizard was very subtly using magic to clean the children and thier clothes as he seemed to entertain. "Well then.." the wizard beamed as he seemed to look directly, if only for a second at the member who's been having that dream. "Far to the north and east. Somewhere about the northern spires of the dragon's back mountains there dwells a very special creature. So special in fact there is only but one. It is said that the gods one day tricked a Centaur into falling in love with a most beautiful and special Unicorn. A unicorn that could shift into the form a lovely elven maiden. He chased her for many years trying to win her heart and did many great feats of courage to impress, and lo dear friends one day, she fell for him as deeply as he for her. From the fires of thier love, though many of you will not yet understand, produced this very special child. "She is called Orioth. She is fairer than the most radiant beauty in all of Hykor with her huge and long platinum hair. She can at her will appear as a Centaur or elf for as long as she wills unlike her mother. Her eyes are as pools of mercury on a sunny day, and is said to be able to see directly into the soul or spirit of those that come under her gaze. Orioth has all the magic of her mother and skills of her father, and yet..." he paused for dramatic effect. "She never has left her beloved mountain home. But at sunset around the globe she searches through those of us what dream. She sees the good and bad, happy and sad, and all that fall between. For she sees the delicate balance of all things and in her way keeps that balance from going too far in any sway. For thousands of years she has done this and likley for thousands more." He paused allowing the crowd to wonder why. "For when she sees that balance shift too far, in ways so slight that you or I could never note, she seeks someone...or maybe a group of someones and enters thier dreams and calls to them to come to her. Now dear ones, her dream is not scary. She merely looks at you, holding a sword or some item that this person will need to stem the storm she sees rising. Merely the more urgent the call the clearer she becomes and more frequent. So..should she meet you in your dreams tarry not and make your way to the northern edge of the dragon's back. For she sees a storm only you can stop. For it is...your storm." The wizard said giving the member and the mage a look of knowing. As the two looked at each other the others of the party and the crowd were clapping and laughing as though the tale they heard was quite different. Even the dwarf of thier party, who's command of common was, being generous, weak was hitting the rangers thigh with a laugh that he only could manage drunk. The two adventurers waited for the spectacle to diminish before collecting the group and making thier way out of the city. To the north and east....
