Description

I'm commenting a little, and will try to finish in the next day or two. It's probably getting repetitious to hear about my pains and such, but pain is a fact of life as we get older. (I'm 72...) It also got worse because of the weeks on my late sister's estate. Then, yesterday? I had vaccine number 2---so right now I'm positively loopy! But I also mentioned my uncle: He passed last week. A word on his amazing life... He fought in Anzio in WWII, he helped liberate Italy, helped liberate one of the worst concentration camps, he got a Purple Heart, the French Foreign Legion of Honor award, a Bronze Star and other awards. He was a Ranger. Everyone was so proud of him, right up to his last day. He went on to be a salesman---the old fashioned type. Door to door. Then he helped build TV Guide (remember that?), met a ton of stars, and yet never lost his humility from his lower middle class upbringing. Never lost it once. The kindest, funniest guy you ever met. He lived to see his children grow and have beautiful families and lives, and saw the world change many times over. This image was one of his favorites (of mine)---it's Lake Michigan, which I lightly tinted to make it glow. (That's real fog back there.) I post it in his memory Have a fine week, all! Thanks for your wonderful visits, comments and support: I appreciate every bit! Stay well, strong and inspired, m ------------------

First, I'm sorry for all your losses and pain. Pain, of which I know all too well. Your Uncle sounds like the person that I would have loved to have known. I can see why he loved this picture; it is so beautiful and restful.

Take care, my friend, and get healthy.

BTW, I'm glad you got your shots.

I'm truly sorry for your loss, your Uncle was a hero. I'm glad he had a full life, even though it's never long enough. This is a beautiful photo. The bright land with the black silhouettes against the foggy city and white sky. The contrast and light-play is stunning. This would be a beautiful place to sit and dream of being able to afford a room at The Drake. :) A lovely tribute to a wonderful man; I'm sure he would be honored that you shared his story... I'm glad you did.

I'm also glad you got your shots. Get well, be happy and stay safe.

That's a beautiful image you have presented us--it is mesmerizing with its beautiful ethereal atmosphere, Mark. It draws the viewer into its magic.

Well, by this time, the Fates must be running out of ways for you to experience loss and pain. Your uncle must have been a most selfless and courageous man, a true hero--so sorry for you that he has passed. Not many WWII veterans are still around and few would have had the stories your uncle could share. Thanks for sharing his story, Mark.

Glad to know you are now fully vaccinated--the second shot can be a bummer. After two weeks, I have nearly recovered from the effects of my 2nd shot. By now, my body must be fully saturated with Covid antibodies :)

first of all Mark forgive me if i missed you mentioning this earlier. have had concentration problems for a few months now. not sure why. can't focus on things in my work with poser, reading and memory. it is a sad day that you have lost another wonderful family member Mark, your sis hit you hard. hope you will not have to go through more legal issues again.

sounds like your uncle was quite the war hero, something to be very proud of. maybe you should post a photo of him on Memorial Day if you have one from his military days or other.

i've had some mild headaches for a few days on my second vaccine shot but nothing bad , sore arm a little more. love the foreground of your image with the city of Chicago in back. great job on it for a dedi for your dear Uncle. take care my friend, my prayers are with you.

A beautiful image, Mark, and a beautiful remembrance of the hero that your uncle still is. His sacrifice and honor will be reflected with both Armed Forces day, and Memorial Day this month. I salute his service to our country and to all those people he and his team liberated. He will live on in your heart, and in all of ours.

I do remember TV Guide... It was a part of American life for many many years. There was always a copy on our coffee table when I was a kid, and even for several years after Jo and I got married. And he helped build it... That's so cool!

And of course this is a wonderful image of Lake Michigan with Chicago in the background, fog and all. Love your treatment of this photo, Mark!

I do hope you get to feeling better very soon, buddy! You've had enough pain and stress to deal with to give you a lifetime ticket to all things good! May they come your way yesterday!

A stunning tribute to your uncle. He sounds like a great guy. I'm sure he and my father would have gotten along well. Two veterans. Two heroes. Take care of yourself, Mark.

Thank you for telling us about a good Life - the news is so full of the other kind. It sounds like your family surrounded you with many good things. I am so glad to hear that. In both hard and better times, I know you know you are well thought of here. Take good care of that self. 💐

Wow, amazing man your uncle, especially with his involvement in WWII. It would make a great story line for a movie. I imagine he was in his nineties. Not too many of us WWII vets around as the days pass, I fear. Anyway, kudos for that terrific image you have presented here in his honor. And sorry about your pain. That's what happens to the body as we age. Golden years indeed. Hah! More infirmities and longer to heal. I thought you had received your second vaccination weeks ago. In any event your immunity system is stronger than mine because you had a stronger reaction to the second shot than I experienced. All I had was a sore arm and a slight headache. Carry on as best you can, my friend.

An amazing image, dear Mark, I see snow that is covered with gold, with a kind of other dimension in the distance. So my conclusion is, you had a golden uncle, so much gold that he deserved and yet also the gloss of humility to stay and care for others. What has experienced your uncle much, seen so many intense things, so much to deal with. A heavy loss for you, my friend, but save that golden edge, this will stay forever in your heart. I'm curious how old your uncle was, I guess rather old, as wise.
