Description

Grace floated ahead of Professor Van Humbeek and her band acending the stairs as they let themselves into the little house. "Your great grandfather sponsored my research, Elizabeth," she informed the professor. "This guest house was my quarters. As you know it's an easy walk down to the manor house where I took most of my meals and reported on my progress to Walter. I admit to an attraction to Walter's son, your grandfather. He often visited me here." Grace lowered her eyes. "He was most interested in my research but I like to think he was a bit sweet on me, as well." "Grace Geist was found dead here on the second floor, no?" Professor Van Humbeek inquired. Grace sighed. "Yes. I left your world from that point many years ago. It is a bit of a puzzlement to me as to who ended my life. Come upstairs and I'll tell you what I know." "This must be painful for you, Grace," the Professor's older sister Dorotea allowed as she ascended the stairs. "We appreciate that you are not only sharing your story but providing light for our movements here." Grace chuckled. "Ah. The light. Although I find it difficult and fatiguing to interact with physical objects such as the lovely pumpkin that you carved for me I have no such problem with electrical aether. It is a very tiny amount of energy I am expending to cause the aether to pass through the electrical bulbs that light your way and were quite modern when I 'lived' here. It is not much harder for me to heat the air and ignite candles. When I am very fatigued I can draw on the aether to replenish myself causing lights to fade and go out..." "...and make the 'cold spots' you find around ghosts!" Brooke chirped. Grace chuckled again. "Just so, young one." She smiled. "The pain of my murder is in the past. I'm mostly at peace with it. At first, I was confused and enraged after my death and my manifestations were quite disturbing according to the Professor. I was still reclusive and when disturbed quite..." She paused. "Well, I was more like what you would consider a ghost; terrifying and threatening. I can show you." "Oh yes!" Brooke bubbled with excitement. "Very well," Grace replied. "Am suspectink this does not end well," Gregor murmured under his breath. Molly's art notes: Set up and rendered in Poser 12.0.703 and tweaked for compositing ghostly Grace into the picture, color saturation and a subtle vignette in Photoshop. The setting is based on the Haunted House by Blue Tree Studio. The characters are based on morphs and textures by Tempesta3d imposed upon the La Femme, L'Homme and Dawn meshes. Flink's instant forest, trees, skys and rolling hills enhanced the background. The characters and personalities of Elizabeth and Dorotea Van Humbeek, Gregor Bubnoff, Brooke Potts and Grace Geist are my original characters. I am so indebted to the content creators who made the meshes, morphs and textures that allowed me to bring these people to life. Briefly, Professor Elizabeth Van Humbeek is a paranormal investigator who teaches at the University of River Heights. Her elder sister, Dorotea, is a world traveler and adventurer. Brooke and Gregor are graduate students and assistants to the Professor. Grace Geist is a restless spirit that has become something of a familiar to the professor.

Thank you Annie! I hope to finish it by Halloween and get back to my other stories. I love these characters and am so grateful to the content creators, especially Tempesta3D, that provided what I needed to bring them to life.

great work on the interior lighting, Molly, not at all gloomy and the external lighting in the entrance hall looks very natural, great job

Thank you, Paul. The interior lighting was all accomplished with materials in the lighting fixtures. Outside, I used a skydome and one infinite light. I am continuing to experiment and learn more about lighting and appreciate helpful validation, my dear!

Thank you, my dear. I credit Blue Tree Studios and Flink for the setting; I did very little texture tweaking or other modification; just kitbashing. XD As for the lighting, I'm very pleased you like that. There are really two sets of lighting: the simpler one I had set up for outdoors and used in previous pictures in the series; and, indoor lighting which involved using light-emitting textures in the light bulbs and candles resulting what worked out to be pretty real-looking indoor lighting.

I really appreciate your positive feedback as I struggle to learn how to do this better!

I'm glad you are enjoying it, Anne. Of course, Brooke doesn't know what she's asking for. Grace isn't just a spook house in an amusement park and a real apparition is terrifying as will be seen in the next picture in the series!
