Description
Krystal comes out of retirement to show off her new steampunk-ish outfit. Well, "new" is a relative term, so we won’t tell Krystal just how "not new" she is! :-)
(as best I can tell, Krystal was released somewhere around 2004 or 2005; anyone know for sure?)
==AMY’S NOTES==
Kelchris3’s renders of older toon figures inspired me to dust off my toony items, and Krystal was the first to emerge! In putting this image together, I was reminded of why I rarely do portraits: because I have no idea how to find the right background, especially for a toon! I must’ve tried over a dozen different props, from various buildings to the ancient Infinity Cove, but the solution turned out to be the fairly simple but always useful wall elements from Metal Realm!
Rendered in February 2022 using Firefly in Poser Pro 11 for Mac at 1800 × 2250 pixels. View full size on my blog.
==CREDITS==
SCENE: DM’s Metal Realm.

Thank you for the comment, eekdog! Krystal is fun to work with, for such an old figure! When I used her in the cast for a story project, she played the role of a professor I once had a crush on, because she's so frickin' cute!

This is fabulous!!!!!!!! Thank you!!!!!! I never got Krystal. I got Koshini and a few things for her. Krystal was cuter and had more stuff. LOL

Apparently she's still available at the other store, for about three bucks. (I'm pretty sure I got her at RuntimeDNA.) But I'm not sure I'd recommend getting her at this point. She's awfully cute, but like some of the other toons of her vintage, she's not particularly expressive. There just wasn't enough geometry in the face to do the full range of emotions, but I suppose she's expressive enough for some cute toon scenes!

Her Steampunk outfit is absolutely fabulous & you certainly found the perfect background! A splendid creation!

Thank you for the comment! The outfit's original description has it as "goth," but with the brown textures I think it fits right in with a steampunk theme! I did update all the metal parts, as they originally looked like plastic :-)

Very cute character. Don't recall seeing her back then.

This is a really nice steampunk themed portrait of a toon. I probably need to stretch myself and try some toon style rendering someday. I love the outfit and the background is a perfect choice, I think. Thank you for sharing your work!

Thanks for the comment, Molly! Toon figures can be a bit of a challenge, particularly when it comes to finding settings that work for them. I think if I wanted to use them more often, I'd employ art effects to the scenes to give everything a coherent look. I'll be posting a scene soon with Star that uses that technique to good effect. If you don't already have any toon figures, the original Star (not the one for Genesis) and Maisie are good ones to start with! Krystal and her kin are far too old to be worth it, unless you already happen to have them :-)

It really is something how you can create such amazing work even using an older Poser figure.
