BIO
My real name is Lars, and I live in Denmark. All my life I've been drawing and making pictures, occationally as a "professional" but always with an amateur ("for the love of it") approach.Being a proficient airbrush artist, the jump to computer graphics (Photoshop, Painter) wasn't all that hard for me, it was just a question of understanding how to employ the techniques to this new medium.
In july -02 I dug into the world of 3D rendering for the first time, in Bryce 5. A truly fascinating experience! My computer has been rendering ever since ;o)At the beginning I thought I'd be making lots of sci-fi stuff, but something happened right back from the early Bryce days: I started to look at trees and nature, the sky etc. in a new manner, or more intensely at least. I've always been a big fan of beautiful landscapes, and instead of sci-fi, I began a "quest" for 3D landscaping and beliveable environments.
Over the years, the 3D rendering has more or less taken over my creative endeavours. Vue became my application of choice from the start of 2003, with Poser, XFrog and Onyxtree as auxilliary programs. Plus a whole arsenal of new and ancient freeware, to be mentioned are Bantam3D Grass and Plantstudio.

Yes...please share your knowledge on this one.

Cool image. I guess It's done by having a bitmap for 20+ leaves at once? If so then it's not new coz in Xfrog there are a few examples of trees done like that
shadowdragonlord
Aye, smooth trick, I can't believe nobody's tried it before around here! Good work, my friend...

Hi, and thank you, all for your keen interest. I had to leave for work (sometimes I work late, Denmark time) and couldn't get back to you before now. --- Yes, most tricks are simple when you know them, and this is another one ;o) Of course it's made with a bitmap representation of a "branch with leaves" substituting a single leaf. The trick may be simple, but the possibilities are great, in terms of tree lab design: Not only will it beat any other design attempts of complex/dense foliage by a mile (or a lot of megs at least) but - well, think of the possibilites - trees with different size/colours, flowers, berries - you name it. (Some of these imaginary designs may not work too well in close-ups - but then you can always use the "hard way" with sepereate objects.) I'll make the prototype beech-branch texture available ASAP in the freestuff area (incl. instuctions tips) - but the trick is so simple, that you can make your own complex trees. Let's show them some Bryce forests with a variety of species ;o) "Kylera": I don't claim this to be a novelty as such - for one thing I know very little about Xfrog, but try importing an Xfrog-tree into Bryce and see if you can match the filesize ;o) and, well, someone had to think of this, and it happened to be me, and not you ;o) --- I'd be happy to supply any further information. ---- Now let's celebrate New Years Eve! - Cheers, Lars

Very cool trees!!
madmax_br5
Cool! Please post this in the bryce forum.

Nice job. I had the same idea just never got around to doing it. Scanning leaf clusters and subsituting them for the Bryce leaf texture. Congratualtions, well done.

Very innovative idea, Im most impressed with this image! I like the detail of the trees and the fact that it is low on file size is an added bonus! Id like to see a dense forest of these trees and see how good it turns out (hint, hint)
