Description
Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam.
Marcel Duchamp said that "the viewers make the paintings" to insist on the fact that the meaning of a work does not belong to its creator or to experts, but to the public who encounters it. I start a new series with the concept that "the painting makes the viewer". I take as a subject of study, the behavior, the feeling of the viewer as a mirror of the work. Quite quickly, the metaphor of the pregnant woman came to me, to suggest that art gives life to a part of our interiority. I will place, in each image, this symbolic character of a hyper receptivity, facing an off-screen painting. The blurred background refers to the reverse shot of this painting in the exhibition room as it is presented in Google Arts & Culture / Museum explorer. Accessories and the name of the artist placed on the bra will be additional clues for those who want to discover these paintings much more admirable than my images. Good visit.

I wonder if the thermos isn't a modern day milkjug, and here we have the Milkmaid? The vivid blue of the maid's apron reflected in the blue of the hair. and the expectant mother gesturing to herself as being the mikmaid for the unborn child. I like the way this is framed; the opulence of the museum interior is a striking contrast to the very plain and somewhat distressed white wall in Vermeer's work...

I have nothing to add to this well-argued comment. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Joe.

Là aussi, un musée extraordinaire à ne pas rater! Joe a probablement raison, en tous cas je souscris à son interprétation.

Using the Google Arts & Culture app I've sat myself down on the same bench and I think Joe is right and we're looking at the Milkmaid (kitchen maid). =) I love the lighting in Vermeer's work and wish I could better imitate it in Poser.

I share your fascination with light effects in Vermeer's painting.
