Description

The National Gallery, London. Marcel Duchamp said that "the viewers make the paintings" to insist on the fact that the meaning of a work does not belong to its creator or to experts, but to the public who encounters it. I start a new series with the concept that "the painting makes the viewer". I take as a subject of study, the behavior, the feeling of the viewer as a mirror of the work. Quite quickly, the metaphor of the pregnant woman came to me, to suggest that art gives life to a part of our interiority. I will place, in each image, this symbolic character of a hyper receptivity, facing an off-screen painting. The blurred background refers to the reverse shot of this painting in the exhibition room as it is presented in Google Arts & Culture / Museum explorer. Accessories and the name of the artist placed on the bra will be additional clues for those who want to discover these paintings much more admirable than my images. Good visit.

The fabric pattern and the lute make me think a rather subtle reference to "The Ambassadors", which I saw just the other day... An Endlessly fascinating piece with its layers of symbolism and that unique "memento mori".... Perhaps that is why this is the end?

This is not the end of the visitor, fortunately. For me, a vanity, in painting, is not only a memento mori, but also a reminder that life is precious in its fragility, and that it should not be wasted on vain possessions. I ended my story with this painting, which is like the Vermeer at the start, a sort of allegory of painting, in particular because it questions its point of view.

Encore un musée qui présente des oeuvres exceptionnelles qui m'ont laissé pantois. Rien à voir avec les reproductions. Encore une fois, Joe est tombé juste. J'aurais bien vu une petite anamorphose cahée dans l'image...

Oooh! Found it. This is another one that I have seen before: the one with the tricky skull in the foreground! Thank you so much for this interesting series! =)
