Description
The Mystikoi pauses in its adventures around the sea to give us a sparkling smile.
==AMY’S NOTES==
This started as an effort to try and make the Mystikoi’s wings translucent, which is not easy to do in Poser. And it’s even harder to tell if it’s working when there isn’t much in the background to make it clear that the material is translucent and not just semi-transparent. The wings ended up looking a little bit like glass, but I suppose that’s OK for a mystical fairy fish :-)
Rendered in May 2022 using Firefly in Poser Pro 11.3 for Mac at 2800 × 3600 pixels. View full size on my blog.

SCENE: Background from Aquatica by Sveva.
CHARACTER: Mystikoi by Ryverthorn.

Have this figure but could never make it look this good! Fantastic!!!

As you know, I do like fiddling with materials sometimes, although it can get tedious to change something, do a test render, change something, do another test render, repeat ad nauseam! The base textures I used came with the fish, so the tweaking I did was with various material nodes. If you'd like the material set, I can send it to you!

Beautiful little creature,wonderful image!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
perpetualrevision
Thanks so much for the comment! It's certainly a rather interesting fish :-)
Gisela
I do have it too but only used it one time and I did resize it. You made him looks beautiful. Good job.
perpetualrevision
Thanks so much for the comment! I think I remember the scene you used the fish in (was it a lady flying her pet fish?) I think it was that scene that inspired me to go looking for the figure, b/c what a cool figure it is! I love these kinds of fairytale fantastical creatures :-)
eekdog
very strange things are in the sea, allot mankind has yet to discover like this one. fun work..
perpetualrevision
I suspect this one may only be in the sea in Fairyland, but there are probably stranger things down there we've yet to discover! Thanks for the comment :-)

Hi kitty, kitty. The whiskers remind me a catfish. Great looking character very cute and the blue background scene is fantastic! Excellent lighting and god rays!
perpetualrevision
The fish does have a little essence of catfish about it! Thanks for the comment! I can't take credit for the background, though, as that's by Sveva :-)
CoolDimension
You did a great job! Beautiful work! Love all the little fish swimming, too!
perpetualrevision
Thanks for the comment! I love those little swimming goldfish too, but I can't take credit for them as they were in Sveva's background. I don't know how she did it!
uncollared
Love like one of those super cute and deadly sea creatures. Excellent work. Great lighting
perpetualrevision
Thanks for the comment! I'd hate to think this fairy fish only looks friendly but could sting you with those whisker tendril thingies, but maybe it only does that if you insult its friends!
gerberc
Beautiful composition and image, very imaginative!
perpetualrevision
Thanks so much for the comment! The credit for imaginative really goes to Ryverthorn for thinking up such an interesting fairy fish figure! I love these kinds of fantastical creature figures :-)

So cute! Not poisonous, I hope!
perpetualrevision
Thanks for the comment! I sure hope not, but we might want to swim a few feet away just in case :-)
MeInOhio
Very nice! Love the colors! Cool looking fish!
perpetualrevision
Thanks for the comment! It is a cool looking fish, isn't it? I only got it recently, after seeing how someone else used it and thinking, "what a cool looking fish"!
madame
What a cute little creature, beautiful atmosphere and colors... very creative work !!
perpetualrevision
Thanks so much for the comment! I love mystical little creatures like this, and Sveva's background really helps to show it off :-)
mazzam
Lovely character and background - lighting, too.
perpetualrevision
Thanks for the comment, mazzam! I think the light I used in front of the fish probably should've had a tad more blue in it, like the rest of the water, but overall I'm pleased with how the lighting came out!
donnena
what a wonderful, whimsical render!!
perpetualrevision
Thank you! That's my favorite kind to do, when I can pull it off :-)
Radar_rad-dude
Such a darling little character! Most delightful viewing pleasure! Excellent results on this fine creation!
perpetualrevision
Thanks for the comment! I thought it was darling too and deserved a closeup :-)

This darling little creature has really come to life in your creation! I really like what you have done with its wings! Everything just works perfectly together!
perpetualrevision
Thanks so much for the comment, Flint_Hawk! It's a pretty old figure, but with some tweaks to the materials it looks pretty good in a large render! I wanted the wings to look a bit more membranous, but they're two-sided, and that makes it harder to achieve that effect. Still, I like how it turned out, and I esp. like that the fish looks so friendly :-)
jmattatall
Very cute!
UteBigSmile
It's a brilliant cute scene, just love it a lot!
artdreamer
Very nicely conceived and made, full of fantasy. I also think the colors are beautiful.
perpetualrevision
Thanks so much! I do love the colors of underwater scenes :-)
Aidolatrie
Nice work on the pose and facial expression of this rather cute looking creature.

Gorgeous picture ❤ And just in case you'd like to get inspired, and only if you weren't aware of it: Caisson created in 2020 a thread dedicated to the PrincipledBSDF node, and one of his examples is devoted to translucency: https://www.renderosity.com/forums/comments/4405027/permalink I've got inspired by this for translucent clothes, for example.
perpetualrevision
Thanks for the comment! And thanks for the link. I don't use Superfly (for reasons of personal preference as well as hardware), but if I ever do try it, I'm pretty sure it'll be better at translucency than Firefly!
MollyFootman
Another underwater picture that I really like; you're really on a roll here with teh Mollz, Amy! =)
I like the creature enough that I had a look at DAZ and found it on sale. It will soon live in my library here and who knows, maybe it'll show up in one of my stories as I continue to experiment with fantasy creatures and themes.
Thanks for sharing, I always enjoy viewing!

perpetualrevision
Thanks so much, Molly! That's certainly how I've ended up with a fair number of things: after seeing and admiring them in other people's renders! I'm particularly fond of unusual fantasy creatures, and the fairy fish definitely counts as that! Some people use it as a flying fish (out of water), so you've got options!
daggerwilldo
Adorable little critter. So very fun and enjoyable to view.
misumu
That is the most enchanting creature I have ever seen. Thanks for sharing.!
perpetualrevision
Aw, thanks so much for the comment! I love fantastical creatures like this, and I enjoyed making it look as enchanting as I could figure out how to, with the lighting and various tweaks to the materials!
