Description

When the need for speed hits, you’ve just got to grab your sweetie and go for a ride :-) ==AMY’S NOTES== This was basically an experiment to see if I could figure out how to do this kind of render. I like how the glowy colors and lighting turned out, but I’m not sure the motion blur really works, and I’m also not sure a headlight would actually look like that. (I did look up reference photos, but I couldn’t find one that suited what I was going for.) An actual urban street would be a lot more "busy" than this, but I wanted to keep it simple (although I did use an HDRI of a busy urban street with lots of interesting lighting, and that sorta came through in the reflections). In all, for a first effort in a style that’s not my comfort zone, I think it came out okay. I don’t think the motorcycle and suit were necessarily made to go together, despite being made by the same vendor, but they go together pretty nicely! Rendered in June 2022 using Firefly in Poser Pro 11.3 for Mac at 3200 × 1800 pixels. IDL and motion blur enabled. View full size on my blog. (Part of a series of "Sapphic Encounters," in celebration of Pride month.) ==CREDITS== SCENE: Sci-Fi Streets Construction Kit by coflek-gnorg, with neon signs from his The Hole set. Yamaki Rapture futuristic motorcycle by Ravnheart. Light cone from D3D Material Collection. CHARACTER: V4 wearing GIS Biosuit by Ravnheart and Treadz boots by the3dwizard, with materials from Pd-Sci-Fi Poser Materials by parrotdolphin.

Everything flows together magnificently, my dear! You did a smashingly super successful job on this most excellent masterpiece! My hat is off to you! Many many super fine kudos and accolades from me!

I am highly impressed by what you have succeeded in doing here too! Great work!

Thanks so much for the comment! It was a fun experiment, although it's always kind of annoying when you spend ages working on a pose, only to realize that the scene is so dark you can't even see things like that the boot heel is precisely placed on the foot rest!! :-)

Cool looking scene! They look coordinated to their bike.

Thanks! The suits and the bike were made by the same vendor, but the names of each don't suggest that they were meant to go together -- and yet they go together so nicely! I didn't realize that would be the case until I loaded everything into the scene!

Excellent image, great motion effects. Not sure about the yellow thing.

Thanks! The yellow thing is one of two neon signs I put on the backdrop prop to give the impression of a city street. The blue one in the upper left is The Hole sign from that set, and the yellow one is also from that set, of a lady on her side. They're both too motion blurred to see, of course. Maybe I should've made the lady's sign green, for greater color coordination :-)

Great color and cool glowing bike. Good job!

Thanks! I got the bike on one of those ridiculous sales and had no idea how I'd use it, but I love the look of futuristic bikes, so I was glad to have an outfit for V4 that matched it! (it's actually a 2nd skin with a prop helmet and shoulder thing)

Thanks so much for the comment! It is a cool bike, which I got recently during one of those ridiculous sales along with some other textures and add-ons for it. I haven't done many renders in the sci-fi genre, but I love the genre, so I hope to figure out how to do more!

Thank you, Marius! This one was fun to put together. I've always admired glowy neon futuristic bikes in other people's renders, so I was glad to have the chance to try it myself!

Thanks so much! I love sci-fi but I'm much more comfortable rendering fantasy or fairy type scenes, so this was a good first start in the direction of the sci-fi genre. I love coflek-gnorg's Sci-Fi streets set as well as others of his in a similar vein, and I look forward to figuring out how to use them in a way that suits my preference for scenes that aren't overly serious :-)

I've never used the motion blur within Poser. It looks fantastic and the contrast in the image is great!

perpetualrevision

2:25PM | Wed, 22 June 2022

Thanks so much for the comment! Motion blur is ridiculously easy in Poser. I put off figuring it out for the longest time, but when I finally did, I was like "duh!" Assuming you've set up your scene for rendering on frame 1, all you do is go to frame 2 and move whatever items you want to appear to be in motion. Then go back to frame 1 and render (with "motion blur" checked in the render settings). It doesn't slow down the render at all, which is good b/c it takes some trial and error to figure out how much to move items. For example, on one test I had rotated the bike's tires too much, so in the render they were blurred so much they were barely visible. Imagine that the render is actually going to be of whatever's in the scene about halfway between frames 1 and 2. I've used motion blur for things like tires, roads, and propellers in the past, but this is the first time I used it to this extent, and while it may not make "photorealistic" sense, I like how it came out!

Thanks so much, evargas! That's very kind of you to say! I love sci-fi stuff and would definitely like to figure out how to do more of it, esp. since I have a rather large collection of prop sets in that genre! I'm kind of addicted to spaceships and other sets by Petipet, even though I have no idea how I'm going to use them :-)

This is really cool! Love the glow effects which really seem to emit light, not just like high ambient values in a textures. And the motion blur effect is cool, too! Excellent work!

perpetualrevision

2:35PM | Wed, 22 June 2022

Thanks so much! Some of the glow is definitely from very high ambient values in the materials for the bike and the suits. But the glow on the street is from a low intensity inverse linear point light colored blue and positioned just to the right of the bike (in the hopes that it would generate light that appeared to be coming from under the bike).

Sometimes when I want to have something glow in a Firefly IDL render, I use seachnasaigh's method of having additional meshes, one to have the super high ambient value but not be visible in the render (so it's an emitter only) and another to create an extended aura or glow, using a material setup he shared in the forums. I've used the method quite a few times, but the only example I could find with a quick search of my gallery is Telka Journeys to Mama Ulta's Island, where I used the method on the lamp Telka is holding. Now I would probably use a point light instead of the emitter, but it's an interesting concept to play with!

A pride for any company above Pixar and definitely an amazing Sci-Fi movie scene or a mindblowing movie cover.
Done in Poser just makes dozens time magnitude order pride. Outstanding creativity and top-notch skills, obviously.
Truly impressive, most impressive magic.
