Description
Gemma Posforth-Hamilton is close friends with Madeleine Forrester, both of them students in Year 8 at St Tibb's High School.
As a result of the two girls always hanging out together at school and after school, too, Gemma quickly gets curious about the app that Maddie has installed on her phone and which appears to be taking up a lot of her time. This app is, of course, Lemur Sanctuary, and the instant that Gemma installs it on her own phone, she is mesmerized.
She quickly becomes very addicted to it, both the hunting for lemurs out in the wild (i.e., in locations around Mettleham; she would travel further but, being only 13, she knows she shouldn't go too far from home, even if it is in pursuit of a rare lemur species) and also in attending to the lemurs she has collected and who are living in her Sanctuary. (Each lemur in a Sanctuary has a happiness score, and neglecting their basic needs of water, food, attention, and toys to keep them occupied degrades this score. Lemurs that get too sad face the danger of dying off.)
Mobile devices are banned at St Tibb's during school hours, but the addiction is so high that, while waiting outside Mr James's classroom for her maths lesson to begin, and seeing no one else around right now, Gemma cannot resist getting her phone out of her bag and checking if any of the lemurs she has caught so far need her attention. There is one in particular that she is keen to keep happy, and that is an ultra-rare silky sifaka which she collected a few days ago when she accompanied her older brother to a job he had across the border in Wales.
Any girl caught using a mobile device on school premises during official school hours receives an immediate punishment of two days of detention, so Gemma is risking a lot standing out in the open in a corridor that will soon be full of students and staff walking to their next lessons, holding a phone for non-emergency reasons.
But it is a silky sifaka! And there are not too many of those around, at least not in Gemma's part of the world, and it would be a shame to see it perish through neglect.

That's quite a risk she's taking, but I hope she finds it worth it!

Even if she gets detention, I think she'll feel it was worth it. Keeping that silky sifaka healthy and happy is important!
