Description
It is Saturday morning and the two friends, Madeleine Forrester and Gemma Posforth-Hamilton, take the metro to a part of Mettleham that feels like it is out in the wilds somewhere but is actually just at the edge of town where the urban build-up gives way to the town's more rural surroundings.
Why have they gone there? To catch lemurs, of course! According to a post on Lemur Lounge (the main online forum for UK players of Lemur Sanctuary), someone had dropped a new litter of baby Marohita mouse lemurs at this particular location. Maddie saw the post and immediately rang up Gemma and asked if she would be willing to accompany her so they could both pick up one of these fairly rare lemur species. Certainly, neither girl has one of these in her Sanctuary yet.
Without even pausing to think about it, Gemma agrees, and within a short time both are riding the metro system and alighting at the stop nearest to where the GPS co-ordinates contained in the Lemur Lounge post indicates the litter should be.
Maddie and Gemma walk through a small wooded area, following Maddie's phone programmed with the co-ordinates, until they reach a wooden jetty projecting out into a small lake.
"Are you sure this is the right place?" Gemma asks her friend.
Maddie checks the phone and the co-ordinates again, and nods to confirm that... yes... this is the right place. The map on her phone is telling her the location is out on the lake, on a small island in the centre. But with no way to get across (neither of them are willing to risk wading over, not knowing how deep the water might be out there, and with no boat to use), the two girls start to feel very disappointed.
"Who would do such a thing, Maddie?" Gemma whines, feeling the urge to stamp her foot at the unfairness of it all. "Who would put a litter of rare baby lemurs on an island in the middle of a frigging lake? I'll bet someone's having a good laugh at us right now. I betcha."
Maddie sighs. "Yeah... some joker probably thought it would be funny. My phone says the lemurs are over there, though. That's not a lie."
Gemma nods. "Mine too. Says there's probably three of them in the litter. But we need to get closer to pick them up!"
"We need a boat or something that floats and we can ride across," Maddie suggests. "Maybe your brother has one in the back his van? He's got so much random junk in there, I would be surprised if there isn't a dinghy or whatever hidden underneath it all."
Gemma begins to see hope appearing on their horizon. "Yeah!" she exclaims. "That's a good idea, Maddie! He's on a job today but tomorrow? I'll ask when I see him next, probably in the morning. Sounds like a plan!"
Gemma and Madeleine hug each other at seeing the situation is not so desperate as it appeared only minutes earlier. And with other Lemur Sanctuary players also requiring a boat or similar to get across to the island, the girls feel there is a good chance the baby lemurs on the island will still be there in the morning.

How frustrating! And great job with the frustrated expressions and body language! Of course, if they're going in search of a boat, so might other players, so they might want to get a move on. Or, if it's not too cold, perhaps they should consider swimming out there?! Based on their clothing, though, I'm guessing it's not the part of the year warm enough for swimming! Hope the girls get their rare baby lemurs somehow!

Probably the water would be too cold, yes. And would they strip down to their underwear to swim out there? They'd most likely have to, needing dry clothes for the journey back home on public transport, but being only 13, I'm unsure whether this is something they would want to do. I guess it depends on how desperate they are to get those rare lemurs!

Fine scene!
