Description

Hi everyone. Just thought you might wanna see the front of the watch I posted yesterday. I just love these things! The time and love that artisans put into making day-to-day objects 'beautiful' is wonderful...(this is a continuation of the shot I posted for Rod's bday) Thanks so much for your comments. I'm commenting now and will do more in the next few days. Be well, and thanks again, m ps---for those interested, this is a mechanical watch---the old fashioned 'wind-up' kind. (Yeah they still make them!) I have regular battery-watches, but I always keep a couple of mechanicals as well, to remind me of the beauty of this very old tradition---ie, watch and clock-making. Be well, all... ------------------

It is a beautiful watch. I'd like to have one in real life. And mechanical watches are the best, you'll still be able to know what time it is after we're nuked into the zombie apocalypse.

Truly a thing of amazing craftsmanship and beauty. I'd love to have one of these works of art! No batteries to replace, just wind it up (I'd forget to - I just know it! LOL) and you're set!

Both front and back photos are awesome, Mark! Sharp and clear, and such beautiful brassy colors!

Thanks again, Mark! I'll have one more upload a little later today. 😁

Battery watches made the scene in the mid 1950s. I have both types--wind up and battery, though I haven't worn a watch in ages. My great grandfather, (my father's mother's father) who immigrated to the US from Denmark in 1880, was a watchmaker. My Pop had one of his watches, an 18k gold pocket watch, but that was stolen when my parent's house was burgled. So heartbreaking. I can't even begin to imagine the skill and patience required to hand fashion all the parts that go into a wind-up watch. Anyway, seems so many are in a rush to get further into the future, they forget to appreciate the good parts of the past. Their loss.
