Description

-o§o-________ Back to the Liestal Carnival once again, with this photo featuring one of those bold and courageous 'Chienbäse' carriers, a German word referring to the glowing logs that are gathered in a metal structure nailed around a wooden pole that is then carried on these carriers' shoulders. The Liestal Carnival parade slowly starts with a couple of fife bands in costume followed by dozens of Chienbäse carriers going down the main street till glowing fire carts take over from them, getting bigger and bigger, which sets the crowd in a sort of transe or frenzy, where laughters and yells sometimes turn to shrieks and seconds of pure panic, when the air gets too hot!
________-o§o- This is what I call ' fire magic', to make it short !

________-o§o- Une deuxième photo pour rendre hommage à ce carnaval du feu à Liestal, censé chasser l'hiver et inaugurer le printemps. Ici, un porteur de 'chienbäse' ( un terme allemand pour désigner la gerbe de bûches clouées sur un poteau central et maintenues par un cerclage en métal) prend un moment de repos de quelques secondes, avant de reprendre son fardeau incandescent sur son épaule, dans une chaleur d'enfer. La magie du feu ! Un lien intéressant sur l'atmosphère du carnaval, se trouve ici !

Et après on cherche les causes du réchauffement climatique ! Je rigole bêtement alors que je devrais simplement m'émerveiller devant cette photo superbe...si tu ne nous l'avais présentée, on aurait pu se croire sur un rond-point de chez nous !!! J'espère que ton zoom est suffisamment puissant pour pouvoir te tenir à distance !

Fire can be such a fascinating thing, the way it dances and weaves an endlessly changing pattern of forms in the air. This shot certainly brings that out. I'd prefer to view the spectacle from a safe distance, though!

The closest thing we have in Singapore to this sort of thing is probably the Chinese practice of burning joss paper during certain times of the year. The joss paper is supposed to be a kind of money to be offered to the spirits of the deceased by burning it, so they can use it in the afterlife!

Mince, tout ça m'affole un peu ! Je suis impressionnée par le courage des personnes qui transportent, tirent ou tractent ces bûches brûlantes! Tu nous décris un sacré Carnaval qui est vraiment pittoresque et impressionnant ! Merci pour ce partage en image et tes précieuses informations pour mieux cerner le contexte. Ta photo est splendide et est techniquement une grande réussite. Elle est très difficile à réaliser à cause du contraste entre la flamme et l'environnement mais tu as superbement su capter la magie du feu :-) Bravo mon ami ! Tu es l'un de meilleurs photographes que je connais !

Wow! Impressive flames and photo...I am however glad not to be near flames like that! Wow, very impressive photo I am glad that it was controlled and no one was injured. Amazing shot and I can just imagine the heat coming off that structure. You have to be extremely careful when dealing with fire for sure. Thanks for sharing.
