Description
Last week week a sad event went largely unreported and un-noticd by most of the world; the passing of one of the true greats, the saxophonist David Sanborn.
Despite being a multiple grammy winner, his is not a household name, though many people will have heard his inimitable soulful playing style, without knowing who it was ... who can forget the wailing sax lines of Bowie's "Young Americans"? Though he was Jazz player primarily, his list of mainstream collaborations is almost endless, including Eric Clapton, Stevie Wonder, Tommy Bolin, James Brown, Bryan Ferry, Cat Stevens, Roger Daltrey, Paul Simon, Bruce Springsteen, Al Jarreau, Loudon Wainwright III, George Benson, Elton John, Carly Simon, Billy Joel, Roger Waters, Steely Dan, the Eagles, Grateful Dead, The Rolling Stones, Toto... etc etc..
But Jazz, in all its forms, was what he was really about. I had the pleasure of seeing him live in both acoustic and electric contexts on several occasions... his performance of "Run for Cover" alongside Marcus Miller and the late Hiram Bullock at Montreux remains a treasured memory, decades after the fact. And I challenge anyone to sit still through the opening bars of his debut album "Taking Off", acknowledged as a jazz funk classic....
.
So I submit this as a tribute to one of my personal music heroes... R.I.P.

I have heard / read his name, but it's been a long time. I'm sure I've heard some of his sax pieces. I do love an afternoon of good jazz to kick back and relax. R.I.P. David.
A wonderful render and tribute, Joe. Your lady certainly has her share of sax appeal.
