Description
Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez, inspired by the palace and gardens of the spring resort of the Spanish monarchy, is arguably the most famous piece of classical guitar music ever written. In particular the rather reflective, even sad, Adagio of the second movement has been adapted to numerous genres from jazz to metal since its composition in 1939, most famously on Gil Evans and Miles Davis' Jazz collaboration "Sketches of Spain" (though Rodrigo himself was deciidedly put out by it, as it was done withhout his permission!).
...even more remarkable given Rodrigo was nearly blind since age 3 and could not actually play the guitar himself!

It's superb...a great tribute to Rodrigo and his concerto (played everywhere even in hotels/tube/shops lifts...unfortunately !). Do you know the wonderful harp version by Xavier de Maistre or by this superb young lady : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wbz85l644K4&ab_channel=NatalieLurie

Thats lovely! I hadn't heard it before, thanks for the link. It transposes much better than i would have thought to the harp. the first movement here is most definitely Allegro con Spirito, and the closing arpeggios of the Adagio are even more expressive than the original orchestration..

Forget the concerto and if you travel in Spain one day, you must visit the Royal Castle. I did that more than 20 years ago. Maybe is your superb Spanish character in a courtyard of this castle?

I look forward to my next visit to Spain, wgenever that might be; I have always had a wonderful time there, from Mallorca to Galcia. and points in between!
The idea was to give the render setting the feel of a royal courtyard, though i had to cobble together various elements from my runtime, including Roman, Baroque and Gothic, so its not period accurate!

Aranjuez royal castle has been built and then modified during 2 centuries with different styles...
