Description
One more (though definnitely not the last) in my classical music series, before I get stuck back into skytown.
Steve Reich is one of the founders of minimalsim and his pioneering use of repeated motifs and slow harmonic rhythms alongside traditional compositional forms such as canons has been much copied, though never surpassed. His body of work is huge and endlessly fascinating; I first came across him via Pat Metheny who was the first to record Reich's guitar composition "Electric Counterpoint", a work that has transcended genre bounderies and been played/adapted/sampled by artists as diverse as the Orb, Kronos Quartet, Röyksopp and Johnny Greenwood of Radiohead.

Superb image and lovely ladies but I must confess I'm not fan of this kind of music...I'd say my favorite is baroque music ; I could spend hours listening to Purcell's, Haendel's and, of course Vivaldi's pieces.

You have excellent taste! I fondly recall performing parts of both Dido and Aneas and Messiah in a choir at school. The master for me remains J.S.Bach however.
I do find some of the same intricate qualites in the best minimalist compositions though; for example in the looping of motifs I hear some of the elements of a fugue or three part invention, even though the overall sonic landscape is much different.

Oooops ! I forgot JS Bach...the very best, you're right. Some pieces make me cry, like "Dido's laments" and I want it to be played during my funeral ceremony...sob !
