Description
This is a reverse angle, from above, of "Endeavour." The ring around the engineering section contains the artificial gravity generator for only that section; since the gravity is a cylindrical field which is perpendicular to the ring, the decks within engineering are also perpendicular to the primary axis of the ship (in other words, the direction of travel is "up" to anyone in Engineering). The glowing blue ring visible inside the saucer (and the reason the saucer shape is used in the first place) is the main gravity generator, and all of the decks of the main body of the ship are parallel with the ship's primary axis.

You have certainly put a lot of thought into your design. Great model. :o) Keep on posting!

kinda looks like a cross between the Vulcan ships and the Starfleet home guard ships from Enterprise..but whatever the source, great modelling. The back looks like it's still being constructed..you don't see that as much.

Glad you guys like the pix; I'm still very much a learner with LW, so I'm just happy they've turned out as well as they have. Truth be told, the Vulcan ships on ENT took the ring idea from one of the earliest concepts for the Enterprise in the original series, a picture which eventually showed up on the wall in the rec deck of the ship in The Motion Picture. Since my "Endeavour" story is an alternative to ENT, I'm pretty much ignoring much of the design and technology that's been shown there (unless it's something I think is appropriate) and basing my stuff on my own retroactive interpretations, plus extrapolating our own current real-world advances. The open framework at the back of the saucer is intentional; I was trying for a more primitive starship design, but one which evokes the Trek ethic. I figured that at this point in time, skinning the ship might be more of a luxury than a necessity, and they don't have advanced shields, so the smooth hull on the forward portion is actual armor to take the brunt of assaults, leaving the rear area still open. In this case, as a series would go along, they would probably advance to the point where, by the end of the series, the entire ship would be skinned. Hey, think I'll win for wordiest gallery entries? ;)
