Description

The billowing smoke was not color corrected. The city in the foreground was brightened slightly to create perpective. Many homes have been evacuated this evening. Later in the day the fire started crawling towards the city again. It will be interesting to see the aftermath of this fire. I have a gigantic panorama of this same shot but decided to crop it down. I tend to get carried away. I may post some more tomorrow.

The photo is beautiful, and it's scary... The smoke seems a red giant bending over the city

One of the best photographs I've seen in a long time. The contrast of sadness and beauty is wonderfully presented.

Incredibly dramatic! Your title is apt. I'd really love to see your full panorma(s). I miss them. Excellent shot Matt!

The oxymoron in the title says it all, as far as my feelings go. There's something very magnetic in natural catastrophies, the power of the elements is scary, overwhelming and so fascinating at the same time... That's a brilliant capture, love the orange reflection on the surface of the lake. A really beautiful disaster.

At this time the fire is too dangerous for firefighters to fight on foot or by truck. Water-bombers are the only way to fight it.

The aftermath and destruction will seem ironic when compared to this incredibly beautiful image! Outstanding capture! :)

Matt, this is absolutely wonderful. It's weird, but despite the destruction depicted, I view this one and it comes across as real peaceful. That smoke is amazing...it makes me dream when I stare at it. I want to save this one.

I was living in Kamloops at the time of these fires and I was scarred that we may have had to evacuate. Those fire fighters are amazing. Excellent shot.
