Description
I created this image as a holiday greeting for 2000-2001. It is a view of Saturn as it might look in a photo taken from the surface of its fifth moon Rhea on New Year's Day 2001 (at least New Year's Day on Earth...). The planet's ring system is seen edge-on and the star patterns and position of the Milky Way are accurate. The icy look of the moon's surface is just a semi-educated guess.
I modeled, textured and rendered the terrain in Bryce, used Starry Night Pro to create and export the background sky image of Saturn and the stars and Milky Way, then composited the two images together in Photoshop. Also added the signature and did a little post work in Photoshop. Hats off to all the others who have created (much nicer) views of Saturn from its moons, most notably Chesley Bonestell and Ron Miller...

cool..Starry night pro? have to look for it..Wolfie's Den site has mats for most of the planets, and rings as well, if you'd like. Great work, looks like 'ol C Bonestell's stuff..;)
