Description
Ever wonder what happens to those spare parts you somehow conjur up after putting something together that requires "some assembly"?
-Tech notes-
A study in realism through imperfection. I tried to get a 50's 60's look to the image with the turquois colorations etc. Not to sure about the leaf.
The parts were originally modeled in autocad 2004 for an engineering project, but were then exported to rhino when I got 'curious'...
I messed them up pretty badly. If you'd like to see a wireframe of a specific piece, feel free to ask. After rhino I painted a rust layer uv map in photoshop and altered it for various pieces. This was then applied over a modified metal material. Final render in bryce using a faked true ambience approach using a few gell mapped lights. Render time was 6 hours due to model complexity.
Enjoy, be brutal as always. I'd rather have a bit of criticism than nothing anyday.
The original post with wips of the various models as well as some more detailed renders can be found here:

Enjoy.

One of the most amazing studies I have every seen here. I've seen you tests and posts about this technique but this is still beyond belief. Wonderful.

wow-i dont think you messed them up at all, I did like the original rhino model, it seemed to be more squared off and imperfect, but you definetly made up for that with the textures, congrats on another sucess!
danamo
Wow, these are some seriously messed-up parts! I would be afraid to handle any of these without a tetanus shot! Excellent modeling, mapping and render.

@drawbridgep: thanks. @woodhurst: I meant messed up as in I aged them by putting rust holes/cracks etc. @danamo: You're probably safe, it's not actually real...or is it?

AAAhhhh. You broke 'em !!! ;) Looks great. Get's an Excellent from me. The only thing that seems a bit off (IMHO) is the blurring seems somehow ... un-natural. It also seems to obscure the grit that would be expected on rust.
Ornlu
it's probably more because I couldn't get the texture to look right, bryce kept blurring it no matter how sharp I had it in the Uvmap. The DOF I think is to scale, the parts are rather small, as is this blue metal pannel.
jaydiva
incredibly realistic, there messed up pretty good :) i really like your rusty texture and the turquoise sheet of metal. Great modelling

Excellent as usual!

Most definately a realistc piece. Well done Ornlu, now stop tinkering and get back to studying. 8)

But..but..but...it's the weekend, can't I just have a little more fun?

Besides the leaf, which looks out of place to me, this is killer realism work. Fine textures too.

This is excellent, and I rated it so. Super good work!
pashiel
Nice setup and placement very realistic!

Ornlu, you have done a wonderful job with this image. I also think you have done a top job on achieving the realism you were after. For me the texture work is outstanding (something I have not mastered). I also appreciate you explaning the tech side of how you went about putting this image together, excellent work. ---- Scott.

Excellent work Ornlu, shame about the flames now whers that fire extinguisher!

you could improve this image by making it not suck. and by "suck" I mean "whatever, bryce is stupid anyway." all you guys are fairies. this picture reminds me of a donkey dick.
