Description

*Ratings are getting turned off from now on: I just realized how dumb it is* Anyway, this is a surrealistic piece, bent on emotional expressionism. The woody was made by me using autocad and wings. A friend needed one for an art class. It's parented and poseable in bryce. Might put it up in freestuff soon. Anyhoo, this was my first attempt at a new style of radiosity I'm working on. Everyone's pretty much heard of baking radiosity tests. Well, I used a similar (manual) method. I took all the objects on the floor and rendered the top view, (standard render, no ta or soft shadows) at 4000 by 4000. This was exported and edited in photoshop. I applied the image I made for the TA dome in a secondary layer and applied a 40% transparency. Second layer: light dome The layer setting was changed to "soft light" this simulated light on the floor. A gausian blur of 20 was added. This softened up the light a lot. Played with curves untill I got a light I liked. First Layer: The original top render of the floor. Applied a gausian blur of 10, drew in some small hilights. Exported the 4000 by 4000 image and applied it as a UV texture to the floor (which was simply a large plane exported from wings with UV coordinates.) This gave a simulated radiosity effect (more extreme than true ambience, but also a great accent when using TA in a render.) I like the look. It's a little imperfect looking but it spreads the color around nicely. The final render used one spotlight with soft shadows. 144 rpp ta render. A secondary radial light (omni) was added as filler (no shadows) Enjoy. Leave a comment if you can, I really appreciate them.

The Light & shading are fantastic, yet the depth through layers makes it. Nice Comp!!

This post shows a small area / sized down of the floor texture, hopefully it will give you a better understanding of how I achieved this effect. http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?ForumID=107&Form.ShowMessage=1502330

A lot of that is over my head.. or just too deep to get into right now. But the pic turned out killer! A quite unique image and well composed. Good work Ornlu.

I think the title is fantastic. Matches the picture perfectly. Or maybe the other way around. I read your text with interest if not understanding it all. I think with something like that you have to jump in to understand totally. I agree with you about the ratings. Stopped turning it on a while ago. Most people get "excellent" on 99% of the work no matter if it deserves it or not. We're all just far too nice to each other.
