Description

*Qu'ils mangent de la brioche! (may they eat some brioches!) * Marie Antoinette, Queen of France, 1775-1793 ------ Pencil 2b from these stage 1 and stage 2 till the completed piece. For November Theme Chiaroscuro in 2d Forum: real size 20 per 25 cm.Time for doing it: aprox 1 hour and half ------------------- For the current theme of 2D Forum, one of the most technical I got the pleasure to challenge myself at, I have chosen a series of peculiar subjects: based on hystory and myths especially. I start with this allegoria of France oppressed by Queen Maria Antoinette (she as example of a power from nobility which was too disregardin decency and fairness to be tolerated, and which was showing a blindness towards countrymen's feelings as dull as the famous quote the Queen had the bravery to say when she was told "population has no bread", that I posted above). The reason was merely that I wanted to create a scene including a large dress, voluminous and ancient, to show the effects of Chiaroscuro technique. The idea was taken from... a carillon in my room :) one with a little doll dancin over it dressed "almost" as my Marie Antoinette. And also from my love for a very old Anime (of my childhood) by Rioko Ikeda, Lady Oscar, which was telling about the history of France under their last King and Queen. In manga style, so totally different (although very refined... Ikeda is an awesome artist). I gotta repeat I adore this month's theme, which I am gonna face from the most natural field, the one it was named for, named penciling and drawing, with many mediums from Chalk to oils to litography to watercolours and prints (as for preparation for paints, or as artform in itself). The technique that Leonardo was tipping as "basilar" to painting ability and that was a constant of artistic excellence till C

I think this drawing is so well done, from the pose of the maiden, down to the way the buttresses of her gown bellows out. i like that a lot. as well i like the way the light on the male figures leg lends to balance, probably a point missed by many more than not. curiously enough you can tell that a person with beauty on the outside as well as the inside drew this. curiously also i must question if gallimel had an extra kick drawing this since she looks like the central figure, poor guy. ahah
