The girls head north in search of a new home. Emma's body grows weaker and paler with each passing mile. April can almost feel her friend's life-clock running down, ticking slowly and inevitably towards her final breath. Dark storm clouds form overhead, finally descending into a thick mist which envelopes them a few hours into the journey. Shortly afterwards, a large stone structure, shaped like some ancient temple, materialises out of the mist in front of them. April heads for it immediately, glad for the cover it will provide from the approaching storm. She freezes as a sudden thud echoes out of the mist, followed by a muffled sobbing. A moment's pause confirms her suspicion: the sounds are coming from the building. Doubt crosses her mind. She should continue? Should she turn back? But with an endless horizon of desert in every direction, and a friend less than an hour from death, she has no other choice. Warily, April steps toward the building...
