Description

For DarkestAngel, for his love of the natural world. This alder has just fallen, flatteining an old hemlock that has been down for years. Had the alder driven a logger of hiker into the ground like a tent peg, it would be a widowmaker. Now, it will slowly rot, providing a home for fungi, moss, and grasses, and often acting as the base for a new tree. Over time, it will slowly telease the rest of its nutrient into the soil, becoming, like the hemlock before it, a nurse log.
