Description

Alerted by distress calls from the colony ship New Genesis and her escort ship the Frankfurt, The heavy-cruisers Nova Hibernia and Nova Scotia arrived off the shoulder of the Blepharon Nebula only to find a widely scattered debris field and no trace of survivors. Fleet Commander Neumann read the long-range scans of the debris and grimly noted in his log that even if anyone had made it to escape pods, they wouldn't last long in the intense radiation from the nearby Catlin Nova,not without shielding. Neumann felt a trickle of cold sweat on his forehead which he quickly wiped away. Whatever,or whoever had overwhelmed the colonists had also quickly obliterated one of the toughest ships in the Free Hibernian fleet!

Technical notes- Image was rendered at super AAsetting with 64 rays per pixel and gamma correction disabled. Excepting the teddy bear made by catlin mc and available in the free-stuff section(thanks Catlin!) all ships and space debris made by me in Wings3D and Bryce and textured using image-based materials made in PS. The space backdrop was made in PS with Flaming Pears'Glitterato Filter and in Painter using Inkwolfs'star nozzle. I rendered all scene elements including imported backdrop together. No post-work other than my adding my name in Painter.

I didn't now I was a Nova 8? and I'm so pleased that teddy finally has some purpose in life, even if it is just waving at passing space ships. 8)

Floating in space, must be unbearably cold out there. Cold enough to freeze one's stuffing. Cool picture, like the work on the ships. Gonna shoot my ship designers.

Nicely put together! I like the real texture you've used on the cruisers and your story bite is excellent! In the short bit you wrote; you drew me in hard! I want to know, what has such awesome weaponry, in the universe now.

looks good! don't take me wrong, i'd probably not be able to do something like this, but i think if you added some more debris like hull platings or parts of the destroyed ships the scene would look more authentic. your choice though. keep goin ;)

Thanks for the kind words everyone! @fakefish- I actually designed the ship in several sections to "break apart" so I promise more wreckage in my next pic,lol.
