Description

Only a pink rose of palest hue Sparkling with the early morning dew Given in loves first tender glow When glances were shy and voices low~ Hidden away half a century Where no one ventured to touch or see All but forgotten as time passed by Bringing now a tear and sigh~ Now by chance to find it so At the fading of love's afterglow Crumbling away on a tear stained page Now torn and scarred, yellowed with age~ Love ever sweet as the rose was then A rose that only in the heart may bloom again Found, now close at the end of day When the clouds were low and the skies are grey~ Now just to gaze on the rose once more Bringing memories to my heart's door Dispelling the gloom from the cold lonely room It fills the air again With such sweet perfume~

The rose is a pic of Syncopate Pristine Rose The poem was an older one I had but her rose inspired me to put the pic with a poem on Writer's Gallery,I hope she doesn't mind Susan~

Very beautiful Susan! Your words bring up memories for a lot of us. I too can picture someone holding a token from the past while their eyes go inward, a slight wistful smile touching lips, as they remember the day and feelings they held at that moment in time. Wonderful poem!

This is such a tender and romantic poem that truly captures the fleeting beauty olf a pink rose and new love in first bloom. Both fade but their memory lingers in the heart forever. Wonderful words. :o) CC

Susan, what a romantic and tender writing this is, your talent for finding words is truly God given, this, as all your others is a pleasure to read, and instills in the mind thoughts of paths we have all crossed at one time or another.......John

This is just beautiful, susan!!! Makes me remember a pressed rose enclosed in a glass box. It was my grandmothers and was given to me, along with her Bible and some other things, after she died. As you said, when I gaze on that rose, it DOES bring memories to my heart's door! vote!

Wonderful poem! I love the bittersweet tone of it and the way the sadness that pervades it is lifted by the last stanza. Beauty has returned with the memory the past. Superbly melancholy tone and excellent structure and rhythm. You are a master of words!
