Canon 10D + Sigma 28-300mm Hyperzoom (at 247mm)
ISO 800 f5.6 1/500
Turning away from the child grave of yesterday, I was struck by the strength of this cross. It stood up, straight amongst the rest, as if to say 'I am the first of many'. With this, you might begin to find the place large. But I promise...this is just the beginning.
Tomorrow...something a bit forboding for a nice start to a Monday morning.
Thanks for viewing.

youre very right, it is a powerful cross! love the way youve focused it, gives even more stregth. im stunned and asking from myself: how can something so grey be so dynamic? well, guess its all about how do you interprate it... (sciso is talking to herself:P) thank you for taking us to join your trip as far:)

This is a very dark and sinister picture. You captured the mood very well! A shiver ran down my spine, when I looked first at the shot. I don't understand your setup of ISO 800 and 1/500s. Is this a digital shot? If so why did you chose such a high sensivity? Though shot without a tripod, 1/100 should be more than enough not to blur the picture. But there would be much less noise because you could photograph with perhaps ISO 200. Just a wellmeant suggestion. :o)

Death is a part of life... and as digital photographer I understand the "philosophy" of ISO 800 f5.6 1/500... And it excite me as a child to share that part of the pleasure of your shot :):):):):):):):):):)

Supreme compo and DOF.... this conveys such a mood and atmosphere.... Wonderful work!

Like the way you used the background blur to make the foreground stand out more.

Somebody always wants to be first at something!! lol. This cross does appear to stand out as a central theme amongst what looks like ruins. Glad you brushed the 'owner's' name out, out of respect. Sombre with mould but definitely of a mood.

An image full of strength.. The background is very good...looking at it, I find myself standing there in a dreamlike condition...

@ addiek...I must admit that I didn't actually airbrush out the name, as it was on a pedestal at the base. I have never really understood why people would even want a name airbrushed out of an image...especially when all the monuments in this cemetery were so beautiful...showing so much love to the owners. In fact, the society of people interested in this cemetery organise guided tours of the more interesting 'residents'. I certainly don't mind doing so, however, if people have a problem with it.

I too noted the lack of a name on this shot. It's a powerful and grim image but as Tagore wrote' Death is but putting out the lamp because the dawn has come'....heres hoping..!

Wonderful.. what I was thinking has already been said =)

This is a powerful image. When i look at this with almost closed eyes i see a wonderful color palette with the whites of the cross as a strong central figure.

Brilliant, as always! The green moss against the stark white of the cross is amazing.. it really shows its age. And great depth of field... I love that you can still make out the tilted tombs behind. Solid work, mate.
